Leclerc na pole in Melbourne: "Dit circuit ligt mij niet als coureur"

Charles Leclerc heeft zijn tweede pole position van het seizoen te pakken. Na de pole position in Bahrein tijdens de eerste Grand Prix van het seizoen lukte het de Ferrari-coureur om vandaag de tweede keer op de snelste positie te kwalificeren.

De Monegask deed dat op het aangepaste circuit van Melbourne, een circuit dat hem eigenlijk niet ligt als coureur, zo vertelde hij na afloop in gesprek met voormalig F1-coureur Johnny Herbert.

Uiteraard is Leclerc blij en lacht hij vanwege de snelste tijd: "Deze ronde voelde echt heel goed. Zeker omdat dit circuit mij in het verleden als coureur niet echt ligt, ik heb het hier altijd moeilijk gehad. We hebben dit weekend met het hele team hard gewerkt, maar het was wel een rommelige kwalificatie. Ik reed goede rondetijden maar kon in de eerste sessies de tijden niet in een ronde snel rijden maar in Q3 lukte dit wel. Ik ben blij dat ik morgen op pole position start."

Voor de race ziet Leclerc echter een gevaar in de Red Bulls van Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez: "De auto is goed te rijden. De Red Bulls waren in de tweede training tijdens de racesimulatie echt heel snel. Wat het ons morgen brengt moeten we zien maar om eerlijk te zijn hebben we onszelf ook vandaag verrast. We moeten een goede start hebben en deze plek vasthouden en dan is er van alles mogelijk."

Als het erom gaat, levert Charles altijd maximaal. Heel knap! Maar wat zal hij hoofdpijn hebben met dat gestuiter.. Niet normaal.

Doet ie t toch goed als deze baan hem niet zo goed ligt. Tel daarbij op het gestuiter en hij heeft het uitstekend gedaan.
