Perez glundert na derde plaats: "We gaan veel Aussies blij maken"

Sergio Perez was bezig met een prima zaterdag in Melbourne. De Mexicaanse Red Bull-coureur was vrijwel de gehele kwalificatie snel maar in de belangrijkste sessie verloor hij wat tijd. Uiteindelijk moet hij genoegen nemen met de derde tijd, al kan hij zomaar nog eens naar achteren worden geplaatst.

Perez moet zich namelijk bij de stewards melden voor een incidentje van iets eerder in de kwalificatie. Hij ging namelijk mogelijk niet genoeg van zijn gas onder gele vlaggen in Q2. George Russell was vlak voor Perez rechtdoor geschoten en de Mexicaan verbeterde daarna zijn tijd. Er bestaat dus een kans dat hij een gridstraf kan krijgen.

Momentum

Na de kwalificatie was hij in ieder geval zeer in zijn nopjes met zijn resultaat. De Mexicaan kon het tempo van zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen aardig volgen en dat zorgde voor een glimlach. Tegenover interviewer van dienst Johnny Herbert sprak hij zich uit: "Ik voelde mij heel erg goed. In Q1 en Q2 zaten we er goed bij en het was heel erg lastig om het momentum vast te houden met al die rode vlaggen. Ik heb een beetje spijt van onze bandenkeuze in Q3 maar ik denk dat P3 een goede start is voor morgen."

Aussies

Perez was in ieder geval zeer tevreden na afloop van de sessie. Hij kon zijn geluk niet op en de dag van morgen is iets waar hij enorm naar uit kijkt. De Red Bull-coureur gaat er alles aan doen om het publiek in Melbourne te vermaken: "Ik denk dat er een mooie race op ons wacht. Ik hoop dat we morgen heel erg veel Aussies blij gaan maken."

Perez doet het lekker zo! Hopelijk houdt hij dit niveau vast, dan heeft Max de beste teamgenoot sinds Ricciardo.

Als hij hier een straf voor krijgt dan zou ik de wedstrijdleiding wijzen op SA waar zo’n beetje iedereen te hard reed onder geel met name Leclerc maar zeker ook anderen die nota bene de snelste ronde reden

  Denk dat de nieuwe wedstrijdleiding de regels veel strikter wil handhaven en minder naar vorig jaar of vorige jaren zal terugkijken.
