Verstappen kende problemen: "Kreeg indicatie dat finishen lastig zou worden"

Max Verstappen kende een waardeloos weekend in Australië. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur reed op een tweede plaats tot dat hij zijn bolide aan de zijkant van het circuit moest parkeren. Verstappen viel voor de tweede keer in drie races uit en de teleurstelling was vanzelfsprekend zeer groot.

Het is nog niet precies duidelijk wat de oorzaak was van de uitvalbeurt van de regerend wereldkampioen. Verstappen gaf zelf aan een vreemde geur te ruiken en kreeg van zijn team de opdracht om de wagen naast de baan te parkeren. Na afloop werd er veel gesproken over de mogelijke uitvalbeurt en men suggereerde dat er iets aan de hand was met, wederom, het brandstofsysteem.

Indicatie

Voor de start van de race werd er snel nog wat gesleuteld aan de bolide van Verstappen. De auto werd bijvoorbeeld opgevuld met hydraulische vloeistof. Verstappen had er voor de start van de Grand Prix al geen goed gevoel over. Tegenover internationale media sprak hij zich uit: "Ik weet niet precies wat er kapot ging maar het was zeker een teleurstellende dag. Voorafgaand de race kreeg ik al een indicatie dat het moeilijk zou worden om deze race te finishen."

Te groot

Verstappen had zijn focus tijdens de race volledig gelegd op de wedstrijd zelf maar ineens viel zijn wagen toch weer stil. Het frustreerde de Nederlander enorm. "Ik deed mijn best om er niet aan te denken en mij te focussen op de race. Maar het ging van de ene op de andere ronde toch weer mis. Toen moest ik de auto jammer genoeg weer aan de kant zetten. Dat wil je niet want dit soort dingen mogen niet gebeuren als je om de wereldtitel wil vechten. Nu is het gat veel te groot."

  Max wist het eigenlijk al zaterdagnacht waar hij wakker schrok van een Jungiaanse droom waarin een grote mens verslindende rode fallus uit de grond zich omhoog boorde met op de top nummer 16 gegrafeerd.
  
  Toen wist Max, de wereldtitel zit er niet in dit jaar.

  Max had na de kwalificatie een hydraulisch lek. RB heeft het reservoir tot de rand gevuld maar het was Max toen al duidelijk dat er onweer op komst was.

Can we do this for a another 10 or 15 years? Dat waren de euforische woorden. Paar maanden later staan de zaken er toch iets anders voor. Weg is die bravoure en het vertrouwen. Het kan verkeren hahaha

  For sure, ga je deze woorden nu werkelijk framen? Die riep hij met bijna een overdosis endorfine en adrenaline in zijn lijf! De euforie nam het van hem over, wat zou jij doen nadat je een paar minuten eerder WDC bent geworden...

  Rb had vorig jaar een keer de boel voor elkaar nou nou. Om dan zoveel vertrouwen uit spreken dat je voor 7 jaar bijtekent. Zie dit jaar maar weer, ze hebben de boel weer niet voor elkaar. Ja die uitspraak kwam uit emotie ja, maar het kampioenschap kwam dankzij max en niet dankzij het team. De tweede helft van 2021 was rb niet opgewassen tegen merc. Nu ook weer niet tegen Ferrari btw
