Leclerc worstelt niet met porpoising: "Ik ben er niet gevoelig voor"

Charles Leclerc won gisteren op dominante wijze de Australische Grand Prix. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur zegevierde voor de tweede keer in drie races en gaat ruim aan de leiding van het kampioenschap. De Ferrari's zijn vooralsnog ongekend sterk en Leclerc toont dit seizoen zijn grote klasse.

Toch heeft de Italiaanse renstal wel wat problemen. Het is op de beelden immers duidelijk zichtbaar dat de rode wagens nogal hard stuiteren. Het is dan ook geen groot geheim dat de Ferrari's van Leclerc en teamgenoot Carlos Sainz last hebben van het fenomeen porpoising. Het lijkt er echter op dat dit gehobbel nauwelijks invloed heeft op de prestaties van de coureurs. Bij het team van Mercedes heeft men ook last van porpoising en dat heeft overduidelijk invloed op de resultaten, bij Ferrari is dit niet het geval.

On-boards

Racewinnaar Leclerc had in Australië ook redelijk wat last van porpoising. Toch heeft de Monegask er helemaal geen problemen mee, hij rijdt er simpelweg gewoon dwars doorheen. Tijdens de persconferentie voor de top drie werd hij gevraagd naar de porpoising-problemen: "Het was er maar ik ben er niet heel gevoelig voor. Op de on-boards ziet het er heel erg uit. Natuurlijk voel ik het maar het leidt mij niet af op het gebied van performance. Misschien een beetje in bocht negen omdat het daar lastig is."

Oplossen

Alhoewel Leclerc geen last heeft van het gehobbel, wil hij er wel vanaf. De Monegask geeft aan dat het ergens toch wel een irritant probleem is. Leclerc: "Het is zeker iets wat wij graag willen oplossen omdat het ons zeker niet helpt. Vooral als je een bocht in stuitert kan het een probleem zijn. We moeten er dus aan werken. Maar vandaag hadden we er geen last van. Ik kon niet sneller gaan zonder het gehobbel."

Het tuimelen op de Ferrari gaat op een trage manier terwijl bij de MB die oscillatie heel snel is. Daarnaast had Ferrari het hier niet in de bochten en Mercedes wel. Volgens AMuS verloor MB alleen in bocht 8-9-10 al 1 seconde tov de Ferrari omwille van dat tuimelen.

Reden is dat het vertrouwen volledig wegvalt - je gaat van onderstuur naar bovenstuur en weet bij het inkomen van de bocht niet wat het deze keer zal zijn. Het blijft onvoorspelbaar en dat maakt het zeer moeilijk. Lewis vergeleek de wagen met een ratelslang waarbij die heel agressief en onverwacht toeslaat.

Toto zei dat de correlatie niet naar behoren werkt. Dat gaat om wat ze in de simulator en virtuele wereld doen tov het echte werk "on track". Net daar waren ze heel goed in en zijn ze nu het spoor wat bijster. Daarom werden op de wagen van Lewis meer sensoren geplaatst dan andere races. Dat om meer duidelijkheid te krijgen waar het fout loopt en hun "virtuele wereld" daarop aan te passen en zo wel een perfecte correlatie te hebben wat wel heel belangrijk is voor de verdere ontwikkeling van de wagen..

  thanks voor de info.
  In sector 1 had de Mercedes vaak paarse tijden en daarna was het opeens 0,9 tot 1 sec verlies.

Vind het wel grappig dat ie het wegwuift als een irritante vlieg. Blij dat Charles er geen hinder van ondervind, want op onboards ziet het er vervelend uit. De auto is hem op het lijf geschreven. een echte Le Clerarri!

  Daarom had ik het idee dat het over een race veel uit zou maken. Maar die Ferrari blijft als een huis aan de weg plakken. Enige issue die ik met ferrari zag was dat na de herstarts Leclerc veel onderstuur had.
  
  Prachtige wagen heeft Ferari gebouwd. Top prestatie. En Leclerc doet dan gewoon de rest.

Dat is inderdaad wel een beetje een verrassing voor me. Dat gestuiter lijkt de Ferrari niets te doen.
Terwijl je bij Mercedes soms toch dat een bocht nemen erg lastig is soms na een recht stuk met gestuiter.
