Steiner nodigt FIA uit na klachten concurrentie

Het team van Haas is op een zeer positieve manier aan het huidige seizoen begonnen. Voorheen was de Amerikaanse renstal overduidelijk het lelijke eendje van het startveld maar dit jaar is alles anders. Haas lijkt te profiteren van de reglementswijzigingen en pakte met Kevin Magnussen al tweemaal aardig wat punten.

De concurrentie kijkt met argusogen naar de opleving van de Amerikanen. Enkele teams zetten hun vraagtekens bij de successen van het Haas-team. Het team werk namelijk nogal intensief samen met Ferrari. Haas heeft meerdere klantenonderdelen van de Italiaanse renstal, Mick Schumacher is een Ferrari-talent en het team heeft ook een afdeling in Ferrari-thuisstad Maranello. Meerdere teams zouden dan ook om opheldering hebben gevraagd bij autosportfederatie FIA.

Welkom

Bij Haas zijn ze zich van geen kwaad bewust. Sterker nog, de Amerikaanse renstal ontvangt de FIA met open armen. Teambaas Günther Steiner is er duidelijk over tegenover het Duitse RTL: "We doen alles volgens de regels. Ik heb tegen de FIA gezegd: Jongens kom elke dag maar langs, we doen alles volgens het boekje. De FIA is momenteel bij ons in Maranello alles aan het checken. Ze zijn welkom. Als ze iets vinden zullen we het aanpassen. Maar ze zullen niets vinden wat wijst op het kopiëren van een andere auto."

Steiner is in ieder geval wel helemaal klaar met de kritiek van de concurrenten. De Italiaan ziet het als een gevolg van de vroege successen van zijn team: "Dit soort kritiek steekt altijd zijn kop op als je een goede auto hebt. Het wordt wel een beetje saai, alsof je soep opwarmt. Het is echt altijd hetzelfde liedje en iedereen zoekt van alles wat er helemaal niet is. We werken volgens de regels. Het wordt saai, al deze kritiek en dat eeuwige geklaag."

Nu HAAS niet meer stijf achteraan rijdt, gaan bepaalde teams klagen.. Was dat ook niet in 2018?

Je zou moeten dom zijn om eerst de FIA te vragen en daarna een Ferrari chassis op het bureel van een Haas ingenieur te laten liggen.
