Perez waarschuwt voor teveel races: "Hebben niet genoeg tijd om bij familie te zijn"

De Formule 1-kalender blijft maar groeien. De afgelopen twee jaar zijn er steeds meer races toegevoegd en het huidige maximum van 25 Grands Prix komt steeds meer in zicht. Voor de fans is het leuk want er is meer actie. Voor de teams is de drukte echter wat minder prettig want de werkdruk blijft maar groeien.

Tijdens de afgelopen jaren zijn de races in Miami, Zandvoort, Imola, Qatar en Las Vegas aan de kalender toegevoegd. Aankomend jaar keert ook weer de Grand Prix van China terug en daarmee barst de kalender haast uit zijn voegen. Aangezien er maar 25 races op de kalender mogen staan moeten Europese klassiekers als Spa en Monaco vrezen voor hun plekje.

Teveel races

De groeiende kalender is een gevolg van de eveneens groeiende populariteit van de sport. Red Bull-coureur Sergio Perez is er blij mee maar geeft wel een duidelijke waarschuwing af. Tegenover The Athletic is hij helder: "Het is fantastisch dat de Formule 1 blijft door ontwikkelen en groeien. Je ziet het overal waar we komen. Steeds vaker beginnen mensen je op straat te herkennen. Maar teveel races, dat is niet goed. Voor mij tenminste."

Kinderen

Familieman Perez merkt dat de groeiende kalender zijn privéleven aardig tot last is. De Mexicaan ziet het ook om hem heen gebeuren: "Momenteel zijn we continu hard aan het werk omdat er heel erg veel races zijn. We hebben simpelweg niet genoeg tijd om bij onze families te zijn. Ik heb zelf twee kinderen. Ik denk dat als de kalender blijft groeien, ik niet langer actief zal zijn in de Formule 1."

Je bent vrij om een ander beroep te beoefenen. Of gewoon te stoppen..geld genoeg. Dat gejammer altijd van die coureurs. Teveel media momenten, teveel races, gala's skippen, te moe voor een interview en intussen miljoenen binnen harken. Diva's zijn het.

  Gezeik over kinderen.........als bemanningslid van een duikboot is e.e.a aanzienlijk zwaarder maar die verdienen nog geen 5% van wat Checo binnenharkt

  Feit dat je het een duikboot noemt zegt als genoeg.
  
  anyway het gaat niet alleen over Perez maar ook over alle teamleden, denk aan de monteurs die maanden weg zijn.
  
  Ja het zijn keuzes, 2010 waren er bv 19 GP's over een jaar. in 12 jaar tijd zitten we nu aan 23 GP's dat zijn 4 GP's bijna een maand extra per jaar dat men weg is van het gezin.

Ik wil die lui die in en rond de F1 werken er niet over horen, die leven in een ongekende luxe, en ze kunnen er zo mee stoppen.

Maar dat is uiteraard ook weer niet de bedoeling.

Die coureurs hebben het ook wel erg zwaar natuurlijk. Je zal maar 25 weekenden moeten werken in een jaar. Ik snap wel dat ze dan tijd te kort komen.
