Verstappen kijkt uit naar natte weersomstandigheden: "Belangrijke dag voor ons"

Vandaag is een belangrijke dag voor de heren coureurs. Aangezien men dit weekend in Imola een sprintformat afwerkt wordt er vandaag slechts één vrije training afgewerkt alvorens er aan het einde van de middag zal worden gekwalificeerd. Het belooft een spektakel te worden want het komt met bakken uit de hemel in Italië.

Voorafgaand het weekend was het al duidelijk dat er de nodige neerslag kon gaan vallen in Imola. Het bleek geen leugen want op vrijdagochtend was het al kleddernat op het circuit. De coureurs zullen vandaag voor het eerst kennis maken met hun bolides in vochtige omstandigheden. Dat betekent dat veel data verzamelen zeer cruciaal wordt.

Regen

Ook regerend wereldkampioen Max Verstappen is zich bewust van dit feit. De Nederlandse coureur van Red Bull Racing schoof vanochtend aan voor de gebruikelijke persconferentie. Verstappen had zich in Italië wel een ander weer voorgesteld: "Ik kwam hier eigenlijk voor de zon! Maar ik heb in deze auto nog niet gereden in de regen dus vandaag is een belangrijke dag voor ons. Het wordt interessant om te zien wat er gaat gebeuren in de vrije training maar zeker ook in de kwalificatie vanmiddag. We moeten kijken wat het weer verder gaat doen, maar het wordt een belangrijke dag."

Finishen

Verstappen aast in Imola op succes nadat hij twee weken geleden in Melbourne uitviel. De Nederlander weet echter nog niet hoe snel zijn team is op het circuit in Imola: "Tot nu toe zijn we competitief op elk circuit. Op het ene circuit gaat het wat beter dan op de andere maar we moeten de auto blijven verbeteren. We moeten in ieder geval de races proberen te finishen."

Betrouwbaarheid

De Nederlander kent vooralsnog een lastig seizoen aangezien hij al tweemaal uitviel met betrouwbaarheidsproblemen. Finishen is dan ook van groot belang in Imola. De regerend wereldkampioen vertrouwt in ieder geval op zijn Oostenrijkse werkgever: "Ik weet dat Red Bull er altijd alles aan doet om van de problemen te leren. Ik kijk dan ook vanzelfsprekend uit naar dit weekend en we zullen zien wat er gebeurt."

  Idd, ik lees op meerdere fora dat de vrije training van de F2 al is afgelast en later hervat zal worden en dat de F1 hoogstwaarschijnlijk zonder een meter te hebben gereden direct de kwallificatie moeten doen. Kan leuk worden aangezien ze daarna niks meer aan de set-up mogen veranderen morgen in VT2.

De Sprint op zaterdag en de race op zondag zullen dan een complete verrassing worden voor de fans én voor de teams, aangezien er geen data is vanuit de trainingen.
  
  Tijdens de tweede vrije training, die zaterdagmiddag gepland staat, mogen de auto’s niet meer aangepast worden, aangezien ze in parc fermé zitten na de kwalificatie.. Quote
