Verstappen jubelt na pole: "Het was nogal tricky met die regen!"

Max Verstappen is goed begonnen aan het weekend in Imola. De Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur pakte pole en mag morgen de sprintkwalificatie als eerste beginnen. Zijn snelste tijd in de kwalificatie van vandaag gaat wel als pole de boeken in en dat is zijn eerste van het huidige seizoen.

Het ging echter niet vanzelf voor de Nederlandse coureur. De omstandigheden veranderden voortdurend waardoor hij zijn hoofd er goed bij moest houden. In al zijn snelle runs moest hij van zijn gas af vanwege gele, en later rode, vlaggen. Hij noteerde zelfs de snelste tijd terwijl er een code geel was, wel ging hij overduidelijk van het gas af.

Hectisch

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was de Red Bull-coureur dan ook in zijn nopjes met zijn pole. Tegenover de lokale interviewer van dienst sprak Verstappen zich uit: "Het was nogal tricky met de regen. Het was eerst droog en toen kwam de regen. Het was heel erg glad en het was nogal hectisch om de banden op temperatuur te krijgen. De kwalificatie duurde heel erg lang maar ik ben blij dat ik hier sta. Het is een prachtig circuit en hij straft echt alles af. Je kan hier zomaar de muur inschieten, hier houden we van."

Weer

De pole position kan de Nederlander zeker bekoren. Hij is zich bewust van het feit dat het een lastig weekend gaat worden, de weerradars zeggen immers dat het morgen droog is. Verstappen: "Ik ben blij met de pole position. Ik weet dat morgen en zondag compleet verschillend zullen zijn als je het hebt over het weer. Onze eerste races gingen niet volgens plan maar we gaan alsnog proberen hier wél een goed weekend te draaien."

Toch leuk voor morgen en zondag het is me niet echt duidelijk hoe de teams ervoor staan, wel super van Mclaren die zijn zich ferm aan het herpakken.

  Inderdaad, Canson. Die hebben ergens wat gevonden tussen race 2 en 3 zo lijkt het.

Ook al heeft die '22 al afgeschreven het is toch leuk dat hij toch nog ergens positief kan zijn.
Hij lijkt zijn zinnen dus gezet te hebben op dagsuccesjes.

  Ik denk dat Verstappen, Perez en de teams hard aan het werk zijn om de auto te verbeteren. Lijkt me ook de enoge mogelijkheid om uberhaubt mee te kunnen doen.

  De race in Miami is volgens mij pas om 21:30 uur. Tegen die tijd hebben de moeders toch wel eens genoeg aandacht gehad en zouden wij toch rustig naar de race moeten kunnen kijken :)
