Ricciardo steekt hand in eigen boezem: "Dacht dat ik geraakt werd"

De start van de Grand Prix van Emilia Romagna werd ontsierd door een ongelukkige samenkomst van Daniel Ricciardo en Carlos Sainz. De twee coureurs raakten elkaar in de eerst chicane en beide coureurs kwamen in de grindbak terecht. Ricciardo hobbelde nog de baan op maar Sainz had minder geluk.

De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur stond muurvast en kon een mooie uitslag vergeten. Hij viel uit en mocht op de scooter naar het team toe. Ricciardo reed op zijn beurt een kansloze race en kwam als allerlaatste over de streep in Imola. Het was een zeer pijnlijke middag voor de Australische McLaren-coureur die zelf ook baalde.

Duwtje

Na afloop van zijn pijnlijke race meldde hij zich vanzelfsprekend bij de microfoons van de internationale media. Tegenover Viaplay sprak hij zich uit over het incident in de eerste chicane: "Eerst dacht ik dat ik werd geraakt en hem daardoor raakte. Maar nu denk ik dat ik daarna pas werd geraakt. Nadat ik Carlos had geraakt voelde ik een duwtje."

Ruimte

De analyse van Ricciardo klopt als een bus want hij raakte eerst Sainz en werd vervolgens aangetikt door Valtteri Bottas. De Australiër gaat nog even verder met zijn diepgravende analyse: "Ik probeerde mijzelf wat ruimte te geven maar ik denk dat toen ik eenmaal op de kerb reed, ik er direct af slipte. Daarna gleed ik door tegen Carlos aan. Het werd allemaal heel erg krap. Dat was zelfs gisteren zo toen het droog was, ik was mij er niet van bewust dat het zo glad was."

Naja alleen een overwinning die eigenlijk alleen gewonnen werd omdat Norris hem niet aan mocht vallen terwijl Norris 0,4 seconden sneller per ronde kon. Maar een overwinning is een overwinning. In dit soort omstandigheden is een klein tikje fataal helaas. Jammer voor Sainz, maar ja, ook dit hoort bij het racen.
De start van beide Ferrari’s was niet best, en dan kom je in het gedrang.
Ricciardo kon er ook niet heel veel aan doen, gewoon pech hebben, net als Alonso die slachtoffer werd van Schumacher.
Wel erg vervelend voor Sainz die nu op een hele grote achterstand is gekomen. Een eventuele titel is voor hem nu wel uit zicht.

Ik hoop dat McLaren volgend jaar afscheid neemt van Ricciardo. Het is onderhand wel klaar met de goedlachse Australiër. Ik zie veel liever een aankomend talent, zoals Piastri, in de McLaren. Daar mag je zulks nog van verwachten.
Die laatste zin "Ik was mij er niet van bewust dat het zo glad was." Jezus zeg, gast, wat verwacht je dan als het geregend heeft. Ongelooflijk. Ik ben er wel een beetje klaar mee. Heeft nog helemaal niks laten zien.

Heel eerlijk... Ik vind Ricciardo een blok aan het been voor McLaren. McLaren wil terug aan de top, maar met Ricciardo red je dat niet. Ik begin me ook af te vragen hoe veel je nou werkelijk aan Ricciardo hebt in ontwikkeling... Norris is nu ervaren genoeg en is overduidelijk de eerste coureur die eigenlijk Ricciardo had moeten zijn zodat Norris nog wat in de schaduw kon groeien na het vertrek van Sainz, maar dat is echt al niet meer nodig.

De grote vraag is dan... wie zet je er dan wel in... Piastri zit vast aan Alpine. Pouchaire aan Sauber, O'Ward vind ik niet goed genoeg... wie dan wel... Ik denk ook echt dat bij gebrek aan beter Ricciardo nog kan hopen op een extra jaar.
