Wolff tevreden met Drive to Survive: "Elk jaar sterker"

Gisteravond werd bekend dat de Formule 1 en Netflix hun samenwerking voortzetten. De streamingsdienst en de sport hebben het contract verlengd en dat betekent dat er minimaal nog twee seizoenen van Drive to Survive aankomen. De bekritiseerde reeks heeft bijgedragen aan de groei van de populariteit van de sport.

De serie kreeg het afgelopen jaar zeer veel kritiek van fans en Red Bull Racing-coureur Max Verstappen. De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen wil dan ook niet meer meewerken aan de reeks, hij vindt de portrettering van de coureurs fout en hekelt het creatieve knip-en-plakwerk van de Netflix-crew. Veel fans delen de mening van Verstappen.

Cast

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff kan zich dan weer niet vinden in de grote hoeveelheid kritiek. De Oostenrijker denkt dat het format zeer sterk in elkaar steekt, zo laat hij weten aan Motorsport.com: "Tot nu toe is elk seizoen sterker geweest dan het voorgaande seizoen. Ik denk dat men nu de cast leert kennen, ze weten nu wie iedereen is en wie ze moeten volgen. Als het niet meer zou groeien zouden Netflix en de Formule 1 aan het format gaan sleutelen. Dat lijkt mij nu niet nodig."

Kracht

Maar Wolff deelt wel de algemene mening dat de show van Netflix niet ten koste moet gaan van het sportieve aspect. De Oostenrijker ziet de wereld echte zonnig in: "Dit heeft een veel bredere groep fans naar de sport getrokken. Ik ben dan ook zeker tevreden met de verlenging. Maar we moeten er ook voor zorgen dat de sport op het circuit aantrekkelijk blijft. Denk aan zo'n spektakel als vorig jaar. Dat seizoen had alle ingrediënten voor een prima narratief en een succesvolle Netflix-reeks. We hebben zelfs een paar weken op 1 gestaan als ik het goed heb. Dat laat wel zien hoe sterk de sport momenteel is."

Seïzoen 4 was natuurlijk propaganda van Mercedes. Het zou mij niks verbazen als er miljoenen zijn over gemaakt naar Netflix om proberen Mercedes haar naam te zuiveren. Het toppunt was het ontbijt met Susie en Toto.

  Ja. Ik heb een stukje zitten kijken op youtube dacht ik. Wolff in een vliegtuig die Gewoon stelt dat Verstappen een moordaanslag zou hebben uitgevoerd. Ik vind dat nog al wat.
  
  Ben blij dat ik de serie niet kijk. Ik ben halverwegen het eerste seizoen afgehaakt. Zag van alles dat in scene was gezet en ik zag ook opmerkingen van rijders geknipt en geplakt op totaal andere momenten.
  
  Of De overwinning in Oostenrijk waar Ricciardo het volgens de serie geweldig deed. Vreemde dingen. Ik haakte compleet af.

  @snailer: tot seizoen 2 was nog goed. Met hornor en cyrill toen rbr stopte met renault en toen ricciardo naar renault ging. Dat gesprek tussen die 2 voor een pesco was geweldig.

  Ah oke haha. Dat was echt een geweldig stukje. Ik denk dat een van de weinige stukjes in dts is wat echt is en niet in elkaar geplakt of opgezet.

Seizoen 2 vond ik nog het aardigst.
Gasly die over Hubert praatte raakte me nog wel,maar voor de rest is het gewoon 1 grote poppenkast.

Dit kan nog leuk worden. Lewis had tijdens de PC 3 horloges
en een aantal kettingen om en piercings in en gaf een statement af
dat hij het onzin vond. Wordt vervolgd.

Drive to.. is net z'n poppenkast als alles bij Mercedes.
Die toto kan je als teambaas niet meer serieus nemen en al zeker niet vanwege al zijn verschillende zakelijke belangen binnen de F1
