Perez vermaakt zich niet in Miami: "Sessies waren rommelig"

De vuurdoop van het gloednieuwe circuit in Miami verliep gisteren zeer chaotisch. Beide vrije trainingen kenden de nodige onderbrekingen en er waren problemen voor Red Bull Racing. De Oostenrijkse renstal kende alles behalve een vlekkeloze dag op het circuit rondom het Hard Rock Stadium.

Max Verstappen had al problemen in de eerste vrije training, in de tweede vrije training werd alles alleen maar erger. De Nederlander kreeg een nieuwe versnellingsbak maar liep daarna alsnog tegen problemen aan. Teammaat Sergio Perez moest de eer daarna hooghouden voor de renstal, dat lukte echter ook maar amper voor de Mexicaan.

Rommelig

Perez sloot de tweede training af met de derde tijd. Ondanks de aardige positie was hij na afloop toch niet in opperbeste stemming. Tegenover Sky Sports deed hij zijn relaas: "Ik denk dat het een heel erg rommelige sessie was. Ik kon één rondje rijden met de mediums en daarna twee rondjes op de softs. We konden niets doen dankzij die rode vlaggen. We gaan morgen dus ongeveer blind in, maar gelukkig zit bijna iedereen in hetzelfde schuitje."

Grip

Vandaag zullen Perez en zijn collega's goed voor de dag moeten komen op het gloednieuwe circuit. De kwalificatie staat op het programma maar ook hierover wil Perez nog geen grote uitspraken doen: "Het lijkt erop dat we een beter beeld hebben van de kwalificatie maar met het weer kan alles hier heel erg snel veranderen. Ik ben nogal teleurgesteld met het gripniveau naast de racelijn. Dat is jammer want het racen zal daardoor niet goed zijn. Je kan dan niet inhalen. Het voelt als gravel buiten de lijn, racen wordt moeilijk."

Ik vond het ook erg rommeling allemaal en in mijn ogen is de layout van de baan het probleem. Mij valt de baan ook heel eeg tegen en vraag mij ok af of die wel geschikt is voor de F1, mij lijkt het meer een FE baan te zijn. Maar ik denk dat dit weer zo een circuit is dat vanwege andere belangen ... [Lees verder]

Kunnen ze dan niet tijdens de trainingen inhaal acties "simuleren" zodat er ook op de plekken waar je kan inhalen wat meer grip komt?

In de pitstraat en op start-finish doen ze dat ook.

  Ik vind de baan tot nu toe echt een enorme tegenvaller. Het lijkt wel alsof het totaal niet geschikt is voor Formule 1. Best bijzonder dat dit is goedgekeurd.

  @Rata: interessant: ik vindt het juist een enorme meevaller, er zitten afwisselende technische stukken in het circuit afgewisseld met lange (min of meer) rechte stukken. Het feit dat er nu al (ik meen) 3 rode vlaggen zijn geweest betekend dat het meer vergt van rijder en auto, dat geeft voor mij garantie op spektakel.
  
  Als Max bv niet voor aan kwalificeert biedt dat volgens mij nog goede kansen in de wedstrijd op een top-klassering.

  Juist niet @Golf-GTI Buiten de racelijn is het een ijsbaan dus dan kan je nooit inhalen.

  De trainingen werd er over het algemeen voorzichtig en verkennend rondgereden en toch ging het al een paar keer mis of bijna mis. Zal mij benieuwen morgen, maar zou me niks verbazen als we meer safetycar en/of code rood hebben dan dat er wordt geracet. Vind het iig een waardeloze baan. Hopelijk denk ik er morgen anders over.

  Ik zag een aantal onboards en dat is gewoon letterlijk driften. Gasly ging gewoon dwars de bocht door. Natuurlijk geeft het mooie plaatjes maar het is wel F1 onwaardig. Je moet er niet aan denken dat het rubber van de racelijn spoelt door een tropische regenbui die op de planning staat.

En wellicht toch slimmer direkt bij groene licht de baan op te gaan, vooral bij een nieuw circuit met enig rode vlag risico :-)
