Verstappen baalt als een stekker: "Dit is extreem pijnlijk!"

Max Verstappen arriveerde vol goede moed in Miami. Na twee vrije trainingen was het humeur van de Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur echter compleet omgeslagen. De regerend wereldkampioen was overduidelijk de grootste verliezer van de dag en verloor veel belangrijke tijd op de nieuwe baan.

In de eerste vrije training in de Amerikaanse middag meldde de Nederlander zich al snel in de pits. Hij kampte met een wagen die te warm werd. Voorafgaand en tijdens de tweede training nam zijn team een voorzorgsmaatregel door de versnellingsbak te wisselen. Verstappen miste een half uur van de sessie en kwam daarna de baan op. De vreugde was echter van korte duur want de problemen kwamen terug, ditmaal met de hydrauliek.

Verstappen was na afloop extreem teleurgesteld. De Nederlander had zich zijn debuut in Miami wel iets ander voorgesteld. Zijn teleurstelling droop er vanaf toen hij zich uitsprak tegenover zijn landgenoten van de Telegraaf: "Dit is echt extreem pijnlijk. Een nieuw circuit wil je zeker goed leren kennen op de eerste dag maar ik heb eigenlijk maar vier of vijf rondjes gereden. Dit is niet iets wat je wilt. Toen ik naar buiten kwam kon ik ook niet sturen, ik had een hydraulisch probleem. Vervolgens vlogen de remmen ook nog in de brand. Kortom, we hadden veel problemen. We moeten proberen de rest bij te halen op de zaterdag. We hebben ook nog eens totaal geen informatie verzameld over welke richting we op moeten."

  Ik heb het wel gezien en dit weekend kun je afschrijven hoor. Hij gaat de finish niet halen zondag. Ze kunnen beter inpakken en naar Spanje gaan.

Max is de "dark horse" voor de zaterdag, misschien ook zondag mits z'n auto heel blijft.

Ik voorzie veel spektakel voor de race met 1 of meer rode vlaggen. De hitte voor de motor, remmen en banden zullen veel gaan vergen. In combinatie met een aantal technische stukken in het circuit waar de muur dicht bij is (oa Max al geraakt) of waar Bottas zijn uitstapje had.

Ik zou zeggen spektakel is gegarandeerd (met of zonder Max).

dit is het risico als je elke race wat nieuwe updates erin wil gooien, het werkt niet altijd en er gebeuren dan wel eens wat onverwachte dingen die redbull geen rekening mee heeft gehouden. dan moet je ook reageren als een kampioen en niet als een verwend nest.

Een natte baan in VT3 kan voor nog meer problemen zorgen vandaag. Dan kan je helemaal niets met je set-up. Tenzij het zondag ook regent.
