Polesitter Leclerc blijft kalm: "Red Bull snel op rechte stukken"

Charles Leclerc sloeg de eerste slag in Miami. Op het circuit rondom het Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens was de Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur vandaag bloedsnel in de kwalificatie. De WK-leider pakte vrij eenvoudig de pole position en profiteerde van een foutje van grote rivaal Max Verstappen.

Leclerc was vrijwel het gehele weekend snel en morgen zal hij samen met teammaat Carlos Sainz vanaf de eerste startrij starten. Eenmaal uit de auto werd hij hartstochtelijk toegejuicht door de fans. Tegenover interviewster van dienst Danica Patrick was hij lovend: "De fans zijn te gek en het is fantastisch om hier in de VS te zijn. Het is fantastisch om te zien hoe de sport hier de afgelopen paar jaar is gegroeid. Al deze fans op de tribunes, dat motiveert ons."

Imola

De pole in Miami voelde goed voor Leclerc. Hij arriveerde immers in Florida als de man met een moeilijk weekend achter de rug. In Imola ging het niet volgens plan maar in Miami wel. Leclerc was tevreden: "Het vorige weekend verliep voor mij niet zo heel erg goed, ik maakte daar een fout in de race. Vandaag ging alles naar wens. We starten morgen op pole maar we moeten dan wel het klusje klaren."

Red Bull

De Monegask kijkt dan ook met argusogen naar de concurrentie van Red Bull Racing. De bolides van Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez gaan immers best vlot op de rechte stukken: "Ze zijn echt snel op de rechte stukken maar wij zijn dan weer snel in de bochten. Het zal morgen inderdaad spannend gaan worden maar hopelijk zijn wij dan diegene die bovenaan gaan eindigen."

PER deed vrijdag op racepace (over 7 ronden, maar goed) niet veel onder voor LEC, je zou denken dat VER er misschien nog een schepje bovenop kan doen. Wordt sowieso interessant, met Carlos in de mix en verschillende bandenstrategieen tussen RB en Ferrari. Ben iig benieuwd of C&C de WC van zich af weten te houden.

  Op de rechte stukken is de RBR sneller, maar die Ferrari gaat net iets beter door de bochies. Denk daarom dat "Miami Max" relatief makkelijk gaat winnen als de bull heel blijft. Bandenmanagement maak ik me niet zo druk om, want daar is hij net als Checo heel erg goed in. Ik voel een 1-2tje aankomen.
