Verstappen opgelucht na winstpartij: "Had de start niet kunnen oefenen"

Max Verstappen deed in Miami wat hij moest doen: winnen. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur kende een lastige start van het weekend maar kon alsnog juichen op zondag. Hij zegevierde en schreef daarmee geschiedenis, hij werd de eerste winnaar op het nieuwe circuit in Miami Gardens.

Verstappen startte de race op de derde plaats en vocht zich bij de start al terug naar voren. Hij verschalkte bij de start al Carlos Sainz en kon daarna de jacht openen op zijn rivaal Charles Leclerc. De Nederlander klaarde het klusje zeer snel en kwam alleen in de slotfase nog onder druk te staan.

Start

De tevredenheid spatte er vanaf na afloop van de Grand Prix. Eenmaal opgedroogd na een bijzonder podium, inclusief American Football-helm, verscheen hij voor de camera van Sky Sports: "Het ging heel erg goed, vooral de start. Ik had er het gehele weekend niet op geoefend door al de problemen. Ik wist dus niet wat ik kon verwachten. Ik denk dat we een aardige launch hadden en ik zag een kans om langs de buitenkant te gaan."

Gat

Nadat Verstappen de Ferrari van Sainz had gepakt was het de beurt aan de andere rode bolide van Leclerc. Hij reflecteert uitgebreide op beide duels voor de camera's van de Britten: "Wij gaven elkaar ruimte bij de start en daarna kon ik gaan jagen op Charles. Ik zag dat hij worstelde met zijn rechtervoorband en ik besloot ervoor te gaan. Dat was beslissend voor onze race want ik wist daardoor een gat te creëren."

Start wordt toch bepaald door de software de rest is random.

  Klopt, maar het gaat meer om de lijn naar de eerste bocht. daar oefenen ze ook op tijdens de trainingen, en ze weten dan al in hun hoofd hoe ze het gaan aanpakken mits ze goed weg zijn. dit keer pakte het goed uit, Sainz liet zich wel makkelijk pakken.

  Op elke baan is het asvalt anders en dat betekent dat ze wel moeten oefenen om te zien of er niet te veel wielspin van komt. Koppel moet gunstig zijn onderin.
  
  Dus ja. De software en ja; de rijder moet wel op het juiste moment loslaten en gas geven. Het moet wel degelijk worden getest elk weekend weer.

  @meister Klopt, racen is gewoon een beetje gas geven en remmen, de start is software, winnen doe je alleen met een goede auto, het is allemaal maar een beetje random geneuzel eigenlijk.

Max is momenteel gewoon de beste coureur op de grid.

Zelfs tegen de Ferrari's die volgens de goedgelovige tifosi inmiddels met een spec 2 motor rijden die 100pk meer heeft dan de eerste versie, weet Max te winnen.

  De nieuwe motor zal gerust sterker zijn, maar dat is natuurlijk geen 15 of 20 pk.
  Dat soort stappen worden er niet meer gemaakt.
  Vooral op het hybride gebeuren kunnen ze nog iets verbeteren, ook al is dat slechts iets langer kunnen gebruiken van de elektrische pk’s. De elektrische pk’s zijn nou eenmaal maximaal 160 pk. Een vermogen stap is na de bevriezing nagenoeg nihil.

Het steigerende paard werd in de slotfase het in de nek hijgende paard.
Maar de nooit roekeloze stier maakte zich breed en verdween weer aan de horizon op weg naar alweer een glorieuze triomf...
