Ricciardo kon amper drinken tijdens GP Miami: "Iedereen vecht met gewichtsbesparing"

De Grand Prix van Miami werd afgelopen weekend verreden onder extreme omstandigheden. Het was snikheet in de stad in Florida en de coureurs verloren zeer veel vocht. Na afloop van de race kwamen veel van hen dan ook compleet bezweet en compleet gesloopt uit hun auto's.

In de enorme hitte was het belangrijk om goed te blijven drinken tijdens de race. Normaliter heeft een coureur drie liter drinken tot zijn beschikking tijdens de race. Maar in Miami was dat niet bij iedereen het geval, de teams doen er immers alles aan om gewicht te besparen en minder drinken scheelt toch als snel een paar kilootjes.

McLaren-coureur Daniel Ricciardo werd als dertiende geklasseerd in Miami en was na afloop gesloopt. Hij reed dan ook met veel minder drinken, zo laat hij weten aan Motorsport.com: "De hitte speelde hier een grote rol. Het was ook zwaar omdat iedereen vecht voor de gewichtsbesparing. We hadden hier dus niet de luxe om drie liter water mee te nemen. Ik had slechts een beetje bij mij, het is sowieso nooit genoeg. Ik raakte hierdoor uitgedroogd. De hitte was intens, dit zijn de lastigste omstandigheden. Iedereen heeft alsnog hard gewerkt, iedereen voelde de hitte."

    Miami is een beetje de vervanger van Sepang, toch ook wel leuk dat er zo'n circuit bij zit.

    Ik ook, scheelt per kg toch 3 pakketjes per dag op de heftruck.

    Tja makkelijke gewichtsbesparing voor het team maar niet echt goed voor de coureur.

    Vrij makkelijk op te lossen door het minimumgewicht van coureur, incl Helm etc mer drie kilo te verhogen naar 83kgs en verplicht 3kgs aan water meenemen.

      Nee het is veel makkelijker gewoon meer water meenemen, dan ga je iets langzamer, maar dan heb je wel grotere kans dat hij aan de finish komt, zonder brokken te maken. Het is een minimaal gewicht geen maximaal gewicht

      Water is aan het eind van de race op dus het gaat niet helpen om het minimum gewicht van de coureurs te verhogen

    Beetje dom dit. Hoeveel tijd heeft dit gekost aan het einde van de race? Was die 2,5 kg besparing het waard in rondetijd en bandenbesparing? Het gaat om misschien een tiende per ronde. Dat is op een race 5-7 seconden. Maar, als je coureur de tweede helft van de race 3 tiende per ronde minder scherp is of niet meer aan kan vallen, dan kost het veel meer.

    Is dit weer een excuus voor een belabberd weekend van Daniel? Als ik hem was zou ik toch met dichtgeknepen billetjes richting de halfjaarlijkse beoordeling gaan. Leuk die populariteit, die hij ook weer genoot in Miami, maar misschien moet hij zich (weer) eens volledig gaan richten op het racen. 11 schamele puntjes tegenover 35 van Norris.

      Normaal hebben ze drie liter te drinken bij zich, Max had deze race slechte anderhalve liter water ter beschikking.
