Magnussen kijkt terug op Spaanse Hamilton-incident: "Denk er nu anders over"

Vorig weekend in Spanje leek het team van Mercedes eindelijk weer competitief te zijn. De Duitse regerend constructeurskampioen kende een lastige seizoenstart maar lijkt nu de weg omhoog te hebben ingezet, dit weekend in Monaco krijgen ze een nieuwe kans. Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton had vorig weekend echter pech.

De zevenvoudig wereldkampioen werd in Spanje in de eerste ronde aangetikt door Kevin Magnussen. De Deen schoot door het grid en Hamilton liep een lekke band op. Hierdoor viel de Brit ver terug maar wist hij zich naar voren te vechten, Magnussen lukte dat niet en hij was op zijn beurt nogal kwaad op Hamilton.

Een week later heeft Magnussen een compleet andere mening. In Monaco geeft de Haas-coureur aan dat hij de beelden nogmaals heeft bekeken. Tegenover Motorsport.com spreekt de Deense coureur zich uit: "Ik heb nu de kans gehad om de beelden terug te kijken en nu denk ik er anders over. Op het circuit dacht ik dat hij expres mijn kant opstuurde, dat was niet zo. Hij kwam in de slipstream van de Ferrari en daardoor had hij onderstuur. Ik zal dicht op hem en gaf weinig ruimte. Daardoor was er geen marge en we raakten elkaar, dat was wel jammer."

Uiteindelijk steekt Magnussen dus de hand in eigen boezem. De teruggekeerde coureur had de geschiedenis graag anders gezien maar dat kan jammer genoeg niet: "Ik had gewild dat ik een milliseconde later had ingestuurd. In zo'n bocht wil je er buitenom zo dicht mogelijk opzitten. Je wilt niet wijd zitten en op het vuil terecht komen. Ik probeerde dat dus ook. Maar jammer genoeg raakten wij elkaar. Dit was echt pure pech."

Ik denk er nog hetzelfde over. Lewis startte ook hardere banden en had dus minder grip waardoor hij doorschoot. Zijn schuld dus!

  is ook wel wat Magnussen zegt, Hamilton onderstuurde enigszins van de apex af, waardoor ze elkaar uiteindelijk tegenkwamen. Op de boordradio had hij het over opzet en dat neemt ie nu wel terug. Denk dat dat ook te ver ging, maar het lijkt soms wel een beetje bij Hamilton zn aanpak te horen.

  Als je allemaal met relatief koude banden vertrekt ben je een ei als je denkt dat degene aan de binnenkant niet wat onderstuur zal kunnen ervaren.

  de auto's voor en achter Hamilton konden de bocht toch echt allemaal een stuk krapper nemen. Kan me voorstellen dat Magnussen wat betreft zijn lijn meer de Ferrari van Sainz als uitgangspunt heeft genomen. Al met al gewoon een racing incident, waar beiden deels schuldig aan waren.

  Er waren er btw meer met een onderstuur moment in die bocht Sainz had bijvoorbeeld een veel groter moment en dat op softs. Dus ben het niet eens met de mensen die volledig schuld aan Lewis toekennen. Ik zou eeerder zeggen 75% voor Magnussen en 25% voor Lewis. Alleen al door de manier waarop Kevin instuurt, totaal onnodig met de ruimte die hij rechts had. En ik was het al eens met de stewards dat het een race incident was.

  ja, ruimte zat, maar als je iemand wil inhalen wil je natuurlijk wel zo'n kort mogelijke lijn rijden. En hoe verder buiten de ideale lijn hoe viezer de banden worden. Magnussen gaf in theorie genoeg ruimte, maar had misschien beter wat meer marge kunnen nemen. En Lewis had iets minder snelheid de bocht mee in kunnen/moeten nemen. Maar ja, t is racen en dit een typisch race incident.
