Leclerc kan lachen na sterke vrijdag: "Alleen balans nog even finetunen"

Charles Leclerc hoopt dit weekend de vloek van zijn thuisrace te kunnen verbreken. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur zag in zijn gehele loopbaan nog nooit de finishvlag in Monaco en het is de bedoeling dat hier dit weekend verandering in komt. Leclerc en Ferrari waren vandaag direct sneller dan de concurrentie.

Leclerc was in allebei de vrije trainingen in Monaco sneller dan de rest, tweemaal noteerde hij de snelste tijd. De Ferrari-coureur begon daarmee foutloos aan zijn thuisweekend en zag tevens dat de concurrentie nog wat moeite heeft. WK-leider Max Verstappen en zijn team Red Bull Racing komen nog wat tijd tekort ten opzichte van de Italiaanse renstal.

Leclerc is zelf na afloop van de vrijdag zeer goed gemutst. Hij was zeer in zijn nopjes met de twee snelste tijden en hij spreekt zich uit in een persbericht van zijn team: "Het was fantastisch om vandaag zoveel mensen te zien rondom de baan, het is nog maar vrijdag! Ik kijk hierdoor echt uit naar de aankomende twee dagen, hopelijk kunnen we de Tifosi een mooi resultaat geven. We hadden een goede dag en we hebben veel rondes kunnen rijden. We moeten de balans nog even finetunen maar het was niet zo slecht. We moeten de gebruikelijke stappen nu zetten."
