Verstappen heeft duidelijk doel: "Willen goed aantal punten scoren"

Max Verstappen staat voor een zware klus in Monaco. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur kwalificeerde zich gisteren als vierde en kon zich niet verbeteren door een crash van teamgenoot Sergio Perez en Carlos Sainz. Vandaag moet Verstappen zich naar voren worstelen om zijn voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap te behouden.

Voorafgaand de race was de Nederlandse WK-leider de rust zelve in Monaco. Hij weet waardoor het verschil met de concurrentie van Ferrari zo groot is en tijdens de build-up voorafgaand de race keek besprak hij het: "Over algemeen lagen we een beetje achter op de Ferrari's. We wisten in de kwalificatie geen betere balans te vinden. We hadden tweede kunnen worden maar dat gebeurde niet."

In de straten van Monaco kan er van alles gebeuren en de Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen is zich bewust van dit feit. Verstappen heeft in ieder geval een helder doel voor ogen en hoopt op een portie geluk: "Ik zou graag 78 rondes lang op de baan blijven! Misschien kunnen we met de safety car en de strategie hier en goede race rijden. We willen vandaag een goed aantal punten scoren."
