Wolff wil Monaco behouden: "Ze hebben de Formule 1 nodig"

Afgelopen weekend werd de legendarische Grand Prix van Monaco verreden. Op de krappe omloop door de straten van het prinsdom werd de zege een prooi voor Red Bull Racing-coureur Sergio Perez. De Grand Prix verliep zeer chaotisch maar de zege van Perez was al snel in kannen en kruiken, inhalen is immers vrijwel onmogelijk.

Het is dan ook een van de grootste kritiekpunten op het circuit: de historie is groot maar inhalen is niet te doen. Het is daarnaast ook nog maar de vraag of men volgend seizoen wel zal racen in Monaco, het contract met de Formule 1 loopt dit jaar immers af. Ondanks de kritieken is er wel veel steun voor de toekomst van de Grand Prix.

Compromis

Veel coureurs spraken zich afgelopen week positief uit over de race. Ook bij de teambazen is er veel steun voor de toekomst van de race. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is bijvoorbeeld een groot voorstander van de toekomst van de race in het prinsdom. De Oostenrijker spreekt zich uit bij RaceFans: "Ik denk dat er een commercieel debat wordt gevoerd. Maar allebei de partijen willen overduidelijk een compromis vinden want we hebben Monaco nodig en Monaco heeft de Formule 1 nodig."

Processie

Maar Wolff weet ook dat de Grand Prix van Monaco voor een saaie optocht kan zorgen. Door het gebrek aan inhaalmogelijkheden komt deze voorspelling vaak uit, ook afgelopen weekend was het weer raak. Wolff is duidelijk over de kwestie: "Als een auto daadwerkelijk iedereen ophoudt, dan is dat zonde voor het racen hier. Dus we moeten misschien naar de layout gaan kijken zodat we geen processie krijgen. Het is hier praktisch een strategisch spelletje of een kwalificatie race."

    Ik zit in een dilemma. Ik wil Monaco graag zien echter wat Alonso deed 4 seconden trager rijden en er alsnog niet voorbij kunnen is zeer zorgelijk. Aangezien we volgend jaar niet ineens andere auto’s hebben ben ik bang dat het einde van Monaco daar is. Helaas past het gewoon niet in de huidige formule 1. Dus met pijn in mijn hart moet ik concluderen dat Monaco weggehaald moet worden van de kalender.

      Ondanks Monaco absoluut een stukje geschiedenis is en hele mooie beelden oplevert wat F1 eigenlijk inhoud (Glamour en Jetset en rijke playboys in snelle auto's) is het Circuit absoluut niet meer geschikt voor F1 wagens.

      Als je ziet de auto's op 3 wielen door de haarspelt bocht 6 gaan bij het Grand Hotel door het hoogte verschil op die korte afstand, kan je eigenlijk alleen al zeggen dat deze wagens de groot zijn voor dit Circuit.

      De Chicane is ook zo'n punt als je goed oplet je merkt de auto's daar heel veel moeite mee hebben door hun lengte. Goed levert absoluut leuke beelden op voor ons als Fans, zal ik niet ontkennen, maar het zijn wel punten die absoluut elke spannen uit deze race halen en het een optocht maakt met leuke momentjes, en mooie beelden, en een dosis nostalgie omhoog haalt

    Monaco moet blijven maar er moet een plek komen waar je kan inhalen. Desnoods schuiven we de haven een stukje op om plaats te maken, geld is er toch wel daar.

      Gewoon een lang drs stuk van 2 kilometer, zodat iedereen op zondag zijn fuckups van zaterdag goed kan maken, en de uitslag gewoon altijd conform de prestatie capaciteiten van de wagens is, en een missert(tje) op de zondag meteen weer recht te breien is?

    Ieder jaar dezelfde kritiek. Toen Hamilton in 2019 de race won doordat inhalen moeilijk is, hadden ze er bij Mercedes niet zoveel problemen mee.

    Voor Monaco is het idd. beter als de F1 daar blijft,anders verandert dat mooie stadje zo in een township en dat wil toch niemand.

    Ben het voor eens ...eens met Wolff: F1 heeft MonacoGP niet nodig, maar Monaco heeft F1 nodig.
    Benieuwd hoeveel jachten het stadstaatje ervoor over heeft.

    Misschien is het een idee om de Technische Reglementen voortaan om de twee jaar te wijzigen ipv om het jaar en de Monaco Grand Prix dan eens per twee jaar te laten plaatsvinden.

    Afscheid nemen van Monaco. Ja het heeft geschiedenis. Maar die blijft ook zonder dat je toekomstige races daarvoor moet opofferen. Allen de kwalificatie en een regenrace is interessant.

    Monaco van de kalender voor Las Vegas, Miami of New York dat zou wel erg hypocriet zijn. Misschien moet je de auto's zo maken dat er wel ingehaald kan worden en misschien moeten de coureurs zoals vroeger een beetje meer ballen tonen daar worden ze uitmuntend voor betaald. Helaas maken we de wereld steeds meer roze zodat de dames straks ook hard op de rechte stukken kunnen!!!

    Het zou fijn zijn als we dan ook kritisch naar andere races gaan kijken. Eens even zien: Bahrein, Paul Ricard, Abu Dhabi, het spijt me het te zeggen, maar jullie hebben nul uitstraling. Jullie worden van de kalender gehaald.
