Hill verwacht veel van Perez: "De verschillen zijn klein"

Sergio Perez is momenteel één van de snelste coureurs van het Formule 1-veld. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur is bezig met een zeer sterk seizoen en staat, mede dankzij zijn zege in Monaco, derde in het wereldkampioenschap. Daarnaast kreeg Perez recent ook nog contractverlenging tot en met 2024.

Opvallend genoeg is Perez momenteel ook één van de grootste uitdagers van zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen. De Nederlander gaat aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap en Perez staat derde met een kleine achterstand. Ook Ferrari-coureur Charles Leclerc is sterk bezig en staat tweede, tussen de twee Red Bull-coureurs in. Maar de verschillen zijn momenteel zeer klein.

Teamorders

Het klonk redelijk onlogisch maar inmiddels is het dus wel duidelijk dat Perez zomaar met teammaat Verstappen kan gaan strijden om de titel. Ook enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Damon Hill sluit het niet uit, tegenover Sky Sports is hij duidelijk: "Ik denk dat hij het wereldkampioenschap aardig heeft opgeschud. Als je er naar kijkt, dan was Sergio in Spanje boos omdat hij teamorders kreeg en hij wilde vechten voor de titel. Nu staat hij nog maar 15 punten achter Max, de verschillen zijn klein en er zijn veel coureurs in de mix."

Sprint

Hill verwacht dat Perez nog meer sterke resultaten kan neerzetten. De Britse oud-coureur denkt dat de titelstrijd dan ook nog wel eens zeer interessant kan gaan worden: "Op een bepaalde manier is het titelgevecht veel closer geworden voor het vervolg van het seizoen. We hebben al wat wisselende prestaties gezien dus het was niet gek dat Sergio voor Max startte in Monaco. Sergio houdt daarnaast ook van Bakoe, dat is de volgende race. Misschien gaat hij een sprint in zetten halverwege het seizoen en valt hij dan het kampioenschap aan."

Hill is geen Max fan. Perez zit dicht op Verstappen. Maar bij evenveel uitval is dat voldoende om het verschil te maken. Ik zie Perez nog niet de duels winnen. Hooguit bij uitzondering.

Redbull heeft vorig jaar alles gegeven om Max kampioen te maken maar nu willen ze koste wat kost om ook constructeurs kampioen te worden. Dus dat betekent dat beide rijders die broodnodige punten moeten pakken en het maakt dus niet uit wie de winst pakt als er maar gewonnen wordt. Kanttekening erbij dat Max tocht de betere is en ook betaalt wordt door RBR, Checko's sponsoren betalen om hem te laten rijden.

  Het is gewoon onzin dan Perez alleen door de sponsoren betaald wordt.
  
  Perez verdiend in de komende jaren 26 miljoen en neemt 20 miljoen sponsoring mee. Voor die sponseting moet Red Bull allemaal verplichtingen doen (demo runs, perconferenties en veel marketingwerk). Daarnaast konden ze die ruimte ook verhuren aan andere sponsoren.
  
  Had Perez een lager salaris gehad zonder sponsoring? Absoluut. Maar dan zou hij mischien 4 miljoen verdienen in plaats van 7 miljoen. Wat evengoed een prima salaris is.

Het lijkt mij wel mooi als Perez ineens de wind onder de vleugels krijgt en de sterren van de hemel rijdt. Verstappen heeft zich nog nooit hoeven verdedigen tegen een nummer 2 die in vorm is, dus ben erg benieuwd naar wat dat met de dynamiek binnen het team doet.

  Ik kan wel degelijk enorm van Max genieten hoor, en ik vind hem ook de beste coureur op de huidige grid.
  Maarja, als je tegenwoordig iets zegt wat enigszins kritisch overkomt of een andere richting uitwijst word je al gauw in een hokje geplaatst.
  
  Was vroeger btw ook al zo. In de periode t/m 2013 was ik vaak positief over Vettel en werd ik meteen "Vettel fanboy" genoemd. In de periode 2018 was ik bijzonder kritisch op Vettel omdat hij eigenhandig zijn titelkansen verprutst heeft d.m.v. meerdere onnodige fouten. En toen was ik ineens een "Vettel hater".
  
  Zonder dollen, ik denk dat de echte Hill ook echt wel kan genieten van Max.

  @Damon was zelf een coureur die minder agressief reed en streed tegen de king of agression, Michael Schumacher. Vanuit zijn perspectief is zijn visie logisch.

Iets met 1 zwaluw en een zomer....We zullen na het weekend wel zien of Perez op een hoopje gereden wordt in Baku en kan de media weer de kooi in..Perez wint Monaco omdat je zelfs zonder KERS (RIC win) hier kan winnen..auto breder dan breed maken en klaar. Als Perez de komende 2 a 3 races nu alles wint..tja..dan mag Hill en de media copy-pasters een punt maken. tot dan...ff rustig aan.
