Red Bull tevreden met coureurs: "Max beter dan ooit tevoren"

Het team van Red Bull Racing reist met veel vertrouwen af naar Azerbeidzjan. Allebei de coureurs verkeren momenteel in topvorm, tweede coureur Sergio Perez kan zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen zeer goed bijhouden. De sterke prestaties van Perez werden dan ook beloond met een nieuw contract.

Perez staat momenteel derde in het wereldkampioenschap, op geringe afstand van teamgenoot en WK-leider Verstappen. Perez maakte met zijn zege in Monaco veel indruk en zelfs bij Red Bull verbaasde men zich over de goede resultaten. Het verschil tussen de twee Red Bull-coureurs is niet zo groot en dat stemt de Oostenrijkse renstal dan ook tevreden.

Interessant

De huidige Red Bull-bolide past veel beter bij Perez dan vorig seizoen. Dat is men bij het team ook opgevallen en Red Bull-kopstuk Paul Monaghan deelt tegenover Motorsport.com complimenten uit: "Checo rijdt dit seizoen heel erg goed. Alhoewel de auto niet altijd naar zijn zin is, kan hij er prima mee omgaan. Ik vind het interessant om te zien dat ook Max goed met de auto overweg kan. Verschillende meningen zijn er altijd tussen teamgenoten. Je moet niet vergeten dat we vorig seizoen aan het einde van een bepaald reglement zaten, met Max waren we daar helemaal ingegroeid. Toen kwam Checo als teamgenoot, meer konden we ons niet wensen."

Opbouwende kritiek

Het verschil tussen Perez en Verstappen is inmiddels zeer klein. Vanzelfsprekend stemt dat Monaghan tevreden maar toch zien hij een voordeel voor Verstappen: "Ik ga niet zeggen dat het een lastige auto is, maar het is ook geen makkelijke auto. Momenteel is Checo er blij mee en zit hij goed in zijn vel. Max komt vaak wat later in het weekend op dat punt. Klagen is het verkeerde woord maar hij levert opbouwende kritiek. Dat is iets wat we van hen beiden verwachten. Ik weet niet of de ene coureur zich beter voelt dan de andere. Maar Max rijdt beter dan ooit tevoren. We gaan wel zien wat er aan het einde van het seizoen gebeurt."

Max moet helemaal niet naar Checo kijken voor concurrentie, de enige echte uitdager is Leclerc, Hopenlijk zien ze dat wel snel in. Max is gewoon veel sneller dan Perez, daar doet dat ene optochtje niks aan af hoor. dat constructeurs kampioenschap winnen ze denk ik toch wel. Het zou wat zijn zeg dat je alle ballen ineens op 2 rijders gaat gooien door 1 keer te winnen op een baan waar je niet kan inhalen in 30 races.

Dat geleuter over "kopstukken" hier steeds, kleine moeite om de functies erbij te vermelden, dan weten we ook vanuit welke positie/situatie een kopstuk praat.

Monaghan is overigens Chief Engineer (hoofdengineer) bij RBR...

Beter dan ooit? Ik vond hem in Barcelona en Monaco verre van in zijn beste doen. Sowieso vind ik hem dit seizoen weer wat mopperig.

  True, de 2017/2018 Verstappen is weer terug. Het is wachten tot ie van frustratie zn geduld verliest en crashed of gekke acties uithaald. Hoop het niet maar dit verwacht ik.
