Steiner trots na beste kwalificatie ooit: "Hopelijk kunnen we een aantal punten pakken"

Het team van Haas bezet vandaag de derde startrij. Coureurs Kevin Magnussen en Mick Schumacher kenden gisteren een zeer sterke kwalificatie. Magnussen start de race als vijfde en Schumacher noteerde met de zesde tijd zijn beste kwalificatieresultaat ooit. Het zorgt voor veel vreugde bij het Amerikaanse team.

Haas is bezig met een goed seizoen en dat was ook merkbaar op de zaterdag in Canada. In de gehele kwalificatie waren Magnussen en Schumacher snel. Magnussen was zelfs in staat om paarse sectortijden te noteren. Uiteindelijk moesten ze dus genoegen nemen met de vijfde en zesde tijd maar dat was alsnog reden voor een klein feestje.

Teambaas Günther Steiner was zeer trots op de zaterdagse prestaties van zijn coureurs. De Italiaan hoopt stiekem op een nog beter in de resultaat van vandaag. In een persbericht sprak hij zich uit: "Het was een heel erg goede dag voor het team. Ik denk dat het als team onze beste gecombineerde kwalificatiepositie was. De coureurs deden het goed, datzelfde geldt voor het hele team. Iedereen bleef kalm en we kregen het beste eruit, alles ging zeer smooth. Nu kijken we heel erg uit naar morgen en hopelijk kunnen we een aantal punten meenemen."
