Perez baalt: "We moeten dit soort dingen onder controle krijgen"

Sergio Perez stond voor een zware opgave bij de start van de Canadese Grand Prix. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur was gecrasht in de kwalificatie en moest de race daardoor vanuit het middenveld beginnen. Hij begon goed aan de Grand Prix maar na slechts acht rondjes stond hij stil naast de baan.

Perez reed ineens langzaam over de baan en liet aan het team weten dat er iets niet aan de haak was. In eerste instantie riep Perez dat er iets aan de hand was met de motor. Achteraf bleek echter dat het probleem eerder lag bij de versnellingsbak. De Mexicaan viel dus uit en zag zijn teamgenoot en titelrivaal Max Verstappen verder uitlopen in het wereldkampioenschap.

Potentie

Na afloop van zijn zeer korte race was de teleurstelling groot bij Perez. De Mexicaan baalde en dan vooral over de manier waarop zijn race eindigde. Tegenover Motorsport.com sprak hij zich uit: "Het gebeurde zonder waarschuwing. Het is heel jammer en zwaar om dit resultaat te verteren. Het tempo was goed en ik kwam naar voren. Ik was bezig met de banden en vooral met het sparen van de remmen. Ik denk dat er voldoende potentie was voor een goede race."

Betrouwbaarheid

Een dag eerder ging het ook mis voor Perez. In tegenstelling tot zijn uitvalbeurt in de race was dit wel zijn eigen fout. De Mexicaan denkt niet dat er een verband is tussen de twee incidenten: "Wij denken momenteel dat dit niet het geval is. De versnellingsbak was aan het einde van zijn levensduur. We moeten dit soort dingen alsnog onder controle zien te krijgen. Het is immers heel erg pijnlijk om uit te vallen als gevolg van een betrouwbaarheidsprobleem. Ook voor het kampioenschap is het vervelend."

Shit happens, en je ziet dit vaker als er nieuwe regels worden ingevoerd, de enige die echt betrouwbaar lijkt is de Mercedes, maar die hebben weer andere fouten gemaakt. en snel en gelijk betrouwbaar zijn is lastig.

  En uiteindelijk heb je dan gewoon meer aan snelheid dan betrouwbaarheid. Snelheid is ook moeilijker te vinden dan betrouwbaarheid. Maar zelfs als je de betrouwbaarheid niet kan verbeteren kun je nog altijd beter 4 van de 5 races voorin finishen en 1x uitvallen, dan bijvoorbeeld 5x P4 pakken.

Hij moest vervangen worden de versnellingsbak, maar hij ging ook zelf van de baan, ik denk dat dat ook niet meegeholpen heeft.

Voor het kampioenschap daar hoeft hij zich geen zorgen over te maken, die komt nooit.

Komende GP zal Max extra gefocust zijn om te winnen, maar podium is altijd mogelijk als je geen fouten maakt.

Het lijkt me enorm frustrerend voor hem. Hij ruikt aan een mogelijke WK titel. Over een jaar zie ik hem Max niet verslaan, maar zo werkt dat in die koppies. Ik moet de eerste nog tegen komen die niet zegt dat hij de snelste op de grid is.
