Horner ziet rol voor Verstappen bij ontwikkeling RB17

Gisteren maakte Red Bull Racing bekend dat ze bezig zijn met de ontwikkeling van een hypercar. Het Oostenrijkse team onthulde gister de plannen voor de RB17, een hypercar met een prijskaartje van vijf miljoen pond. De wagen is niet bedoeld voor de openbare weg en Red Bulls topontwerper Adrian Newey staat aan de wieg van het project.

Het is niet de eerste keer dat men bij Red Bull betrokken is bij de totstandkoming van een extreme hypercar. Toen Aston Martin nog de hoofdsponsor van Red Bull was testten de coureurs meermaals de Aston Martin Valkyrie. Het was onduidelijk of Max Verstappen en Sergio Perez ook betrokken zouden zijn bij de ontwikkeling van de RB17.

Valkyrie

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner gaf tijdens een persbijeenkomst meer duidelijkheid over de mogelijke rol van de coureurs van het team. De Britse teambaas verwees tegenover Motorsport.com naar de eerdere betrokkenheid van Verstappen bij de Valkyrie: "Max heeft eerder een aantal keer met de Valkyrie getest. Volgens mij heeft hij zelfs zo'n auto in zijn eigen bezit."

Ontwikkelen

Aangezien de RB17 een auto wordt die enkel en alleen op het circuit kan worden gebruikt vindt Horner het meer dan logisch dat Verstappen en Perez een rol krijgen bij het project. De Brit weet echter niet of er binnenkort ook een RB17 in de garages van de coureurs verschijnt: "Of ze de auto gaan kopen is echt volledig aan hen. Maar we zijn zeker van plan om alle vaardigheden die we tot onze beschikking hebben te gebruiken bij het testen en ontwikkelen van de auto."

Denk dat zo'n auto gewoon deel uitmaakt van het contract 🤣 tussen verstPpen bv en RBR.

Zou me ook niet verbazen dat max met deze rb17 (toch zijn kampioenswagen nummer) aan de start van bijv Le mans verschijnt

  Dat denk ik niet, KiekisNL.
  Vrij recent heeft Horner nog gezegd dat de rijders niet in dienst zijn bij Red Bull. Dat zijn de mensen in de fabriek en de race team-leden.
  De rijders worden ingehuurd om te racen en om promotiewerk te doen. Het zijn dus legionairs.
  Maar met een klein beetje goodwill kan je dat testen ook onder promotiewerk schuiven.
  Echter denk ik niet dat Verstappen geld wil hebben om in een snelle auto to mogen stappen.

  Was ik al weer vergeten datbdien16b hete en aangezien ze nu de rb18 hebben is het eigenlijk ook wel.logische aangezien het rb17 nr nog vrij is.

  Ik zou heel graag een plaatje willen zien van het ding. En trouwens ook zou ik willen weten welke motor ze gaan gebruiken. Er zijn op het moment best een aantal twin tubo V8 motoren. Heb nog even gezocht op het aantal pk's, maar daar kom ik niet zo snel uit aangezien er een hybride component is die vast niet is toegeveogd om zuiniger te zijn. Zal vast ingezet worden voor meer pk-tjes.
