Verstappen gaat niet rustig aan doen in Silverstone: "Als ik de kans krijg ga ik ervoor"

Max Verstappen begint straks vanaf de tweede startplaats aan de Britse Grand Prix. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur werd gisteren in zijn laatste rondje gehinderd door gele vlaggen die werden veroorzaakt door Charles Leclerc. Verstappen deelt de eerste startrij met Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz.

Verstappen kan straks zijn voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap weer verder gaan uitbreiden. De Nederlandse coureur weet dat zijn titelrivalen Leclerc en Sergio Perez op de tweede startrij staan. Zijn voorsprong is inmiddels redelijk fors en het is dan ook goede mogelijk dat Verstappen de race wat conservatiever dan normaal kan gaan aanpakken op het circuit van Silverstone.

Verstappen weigert zelf echter om zijn strategie aan te passen voor de Britse Grand Prix. Op de persconferentie na afloop van de kwalificatie werd hij gevraagd naar zijn aanpak: "Het doel is altijd het scoren van punten en het liefst zoveel mogelijk. Dat is hoe ik tot nu toe elke race heb aangepakt. Ik zie niet in waarom dat vandaag ineens anders zou moeten gaan. Als ik de kans krijg om ervoor te gaan, dan ga ik ervoor. Zo gaat het in de Formule 1. Er zijn nog steeds zoveel races te gaan waar je veel punten kan scoren als je voor de titel wilt gaan."
