Perez kijkt uit naar 'thuisrace': "Fans komen voor ons en ik wil ze wat teruggeven"

Sergio Perez zorgde ervoor dat het team van Red Bull Racing afgelopen weekend alsnog kon juichen. De Oostenrijkse renstal zag Perez in de openingsfase wegvallen na schade aan zijn voorvleugel. Even later zakte ook Max Verstappen weg nadat hij over een stukje carbon was gereden. Perez werd uiteindelijk nog tweede.

De Mexicaan reed een sterke inhaalrace en vocht zich na de safety car in de slotfase naar de podiumplaatsen. Hierdoor was de vreugde weer terug en werd Ferrari-rivaal Charles Leclerc weer verslagen. Perez neemt het goede gevoel mee naar Spielberg waar aankomend weekend de Oostenrijkse Grand Prix op het programma staat, inclusief sprintkwalificatie.

Silverstone

Perez zelf is zeer te spreken over zij resultaat in Silverstone en hij hoopt op een vergelijkbaar resultaat in Spielberg. In de thuisrace van Red Bull, op het circuit van Red Bull, wil hij presteren. Perez wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com terwijl hij vooruit kijkt en terugblikt: "Ik ben blij met het resultaat van de Britse GP, ik geef nooit op en daar werden we op Silverstone voor beloond. We hadden tot de race niet ons beste weekend met de auto en in de race hebben we dat recht gezet. Daar kunnen we trots op zijn. We zijn klaar voor nog een raceweekend en ik denk dat we er weer een mooi weekend van kunnen maken."

Thuisrace

De race in Oostenrijk zal volgens Perez één van de mooiste van het jaar gaan worden. De Mexicaan is er eerlijk over en kijkt er zeer naar uit: "Het is prachtig om deze week weer in Oostenrijk te zijn. Dit is één van onze thuisraces en dat voel je zodra je op het circuit komt. We worden hier enorm goed ontvangen. Ik kijk heel erg uit naar dit weekend. De fans hier zullen voor ons komen en ik wil ze graag iets teruggeven."

"Hamilton heeft met zijn opmerkingen een zaak aangehaald die al lang en breed afgesloten was en dat uitgerekend voorafgaand aan een race waarbij 60.000 Nederlanders worden verwacht. Het kan dit weekend leiden tot het boegeroep dat op Silverstone ook hoorbaar was, maar dan andersom. "Daar moet hij zelf mee leven", reageert Verstappen koeljes. Verstappen kan in ieder geval weinig met de opmerkingen van Hamilton. "Ik vind het een beetje lomp. Maar uiteindelijk heeft dat niets met mijn prestaties te maken. Ik moet me gewoon concentreren op wat we hier doen en dat doen we volgens mij best goed dit jaar. Daar ben ik mee bezig."

  Het is wel een trend die lastig is om tegen te houden en erger wordt sedert F1 meer publiek trekt. Ik zalm ook daar tegenin....
