Leclerc kan leven met tweede startplaats: "Ik wil gewoon een foutloze race"

Charles Leclerc had in Oostenrijk een goede kans op de pole position. Bij zijn team Ferrari rekende men zich al bijna rijk maar Max Verstappen perste er nog een superrondje uit. De Monegask noteerde desalniettemin de tweede tijd en mag de sprint morgen vanaf de tweede plaats starten.

De teleurstelling was wel eens groter bij Ferrari. Leclerc is zich immers bewust van het feit dat er morgen slechts een sprint wordt verreden, een betere uitgangspositie voor de race van zondag is dus nog altijd mogelijk. De Monegask was snel maar net niet snel genoeg om de pole position te pakken, dat werd een prooi voor zijn rivaal Verstappen.

Banden

Na afloop van de kwalificatie was Leclerc de rust zelven en toonde hij zijn sportieve kant. De Ferrari-coureur zag de beide Mercedessen crashen en reflecteerde op zijn kwalificatie bij interviewer van dienst Billy Monger: "We zaten allemaal heel erg dichtbij. Ik had een beetje moeite om temperatuur in de banden te krijgen nadat we zolang in de pits stonden. Maar mijn felicitaties voor Max, hopelijk hebben we morgen een boeiende sprint."

Clean

Leclerc hoopt vooral op eindelijk eens een foutloos weekend. In de voorgaande races had hij immers te maken met betrouwbaarheidsproblemen en bijzondere strategieën van Ferrari. Hij is dan ook duidelijk over zijn doel voor de rest van het weekend: "Ik wil gewoon een echt foutloze race. De laatste vijf races waren van mijn kant een beetje een drama en hopelijk kunnen we nu echt een clean weekend rijden."

  dat tikje deelde Leclerc zelf uit hoor. Kijk maar eens op de onboard van Verstappen hoe ver hij aan de binnenkant van de bocht zit op het moment dat je het lichte contact hoort (zien kun je het amper op beide onboards). Sainz die je voor m ziet rijdt een veel ruimere lijn.
