Wolff heeft vertrouwen in goed resultaat in Franse Grand Prix

Het team van Mercedes begon op redelijk tegenvallende wijze aan het huidige seizoen. De Duitse regerend constructeurskampioen komt snelheid tekort ten opzichte van Ferrari en Red Bull Racing. Inmiddels lijkt het erop dat Mercedes langzamerhand het gat aan het dichten is.

In de laatste vier races eindigde een Mercedes-coureur op het podium. George Russell werd derde in Azerbeidzjan en Lewis Hamilton eindigde op die positie in Canada, Groot-Brittannië en Oostenrijk. Het lijkt erop dat Mercedes de grootste problemen met het gehobbel, porpoising, heeft opgelost. Het vertrouwen richting de aankomende races is dan ook aanwezig bij de Duitse regerend constructeurskampioen.

Paul Ricard

Teambaas Toto Wolff heeft in ieder geval vertrouwen in de Franse Grand Prix over anderhalve week. De Oostenrijker denkt dat zijn team goed voor de dag kan komen op het circuit van Paul Ricard. Wolff deelde zijn vooruitblik met Sky Sports: "Dat is een heel egaal circuit, het lijkt een beetje op Silverstone. Het heeft snelle bochten en het lijkt er op papier in ieder geval op dat we daar een goede performance zullen hebben."

Terugval

Wolff denkt in ieder geval dat het gat met Red Bull en Ferrari langzamerhand begint te krimpen. De Oostenrijker had deze situatie eerder al zien aankomen: "We beginnen te zien dat we dichterbij de koplopers komen en dat is voor ons belangrijk. We bevinden ons nu in een situatie die we altijd al besproken hebben. Namelijk dat we op een keer zouden terugvallen na acht opeenvolgende titels en dat die reeks dan zal worden gebroken. We willen graag dat het een terugval is en geen lange cyclus."

  Precies dit. Ik snap ergens wel dat Toto zichzelf een rad voor de ogen wil draaien, maar ik snap dus niet waarom de schrijver van dit stukje daadwerkelijk durft te beweren dat Mercedes het gat aan het dichten is. Ze liggen er gewoon nog mijlenver achter.

  Dit is toch iets anders dan je hier beweert. Daarnaast heeft hij simpelweg gelijk. Het gat naar de twee voorhoede teams was aan het begin groter en is nu kleiner geworden. Kortom: Toto heeft hier gelijk en spreekt dan ook de waarheid.

Ik vind dit beter dan dat ze een hele week roepen dat ze lage verwachtingen hebben van een Grand Prix en als ze dan per ongeluk op het podium komen, nep doen alsof ze het niet hadden verwachten en het hele team bedanken, dit hadden we niet gedacht blabla verhaal van Mercedes.
