Ricciardo geen fan van boegeroep: "We zijn gewoon mensen"

Vorige week ontstond er in Oostenrijk ophef omtrent het gedrag van fans tijdens de kwalificatie op vrijdag. Tijdens het derde deel van de kwalificatie ging Lewis Hamilton immers de fout in. De Brit crashte en de Nederlandse fans op de tribunes besloten te gaan juichen. Dit had vanzelfsprekend alles te maken met Hamiltons rivaliteit met Max Verstappen van vorig seizoen.

Na afloop van de kwalificatie spraken meerdere coureurs zich afkeurend uit over het gejuich. Hamilton en Verstappen waren allebei nogal fel in hun bewoording. Het juich-incident volgde een week na soortgelijk gedrag van Britse fans in Silverstone. Daar werd Verstappen uitgefloten tijdens de interviews voor de top drie na afloop van de kwalificatie.

Rivaliteit

Meerdere coureurs spraken zich afkeurend uit over het gefluit en het gejuich. Ook McLaren-coureur Daniel Ricciardo laat weten er geen fan van te zijn. De Australiër geeft aan de rivaliteit te begrijpen maar tegenover Motorsport.com is hij wel kritisch: "Ik ben nooit een fan geweest van boegeroep, ik sta er dan ook niet achter. Natuurlijk heb je coureurs waar je voor juicht en coureurs waar je dan niet voor doet. Maar bij een incident wil je het niet zien. Ik zal de emoties van de tribunes niet in bedwang houden. Als je het over de rivaliteit hebt, dat maakt onze sport. De fans staan dan achter hun coureur en dat is mooi."

Mensen

Toch hoopt Ricciardo dat men in de toekomst wel twee keer nadenkt over juichen bij crashes. De Australische McLaren-coureur ziet dan ook graag dat men daarmee kapt: "Het is iets wat ik liever niet zie. Ik ben niet bij de situatie betrokken, ik ben wel blij dat ik niet bij de situatie ben betrokken. We zijn gewoon mensen en ik denk dat de mensen zich dat soms weer eventjes moeten beseffen."

  Ik vind ook dat het boegeroep van de F1 (coureurs, temabazen, organisatie etc.) richting de fans nu maar eens op moet houden. Ja, er zijn een paar mensen over de schreef gegaan en dat moet men inderdaad niet tollereren maar 99% van de fans heeft zich normaal gedragen, maar het wordt nu gewoon alles over een kam geschoren. In Engeland was het niet anders. Dat krijg je als een kampioenschap ook buiten het veld en in de media wordt uitgevochten. Daar hebben Lewis en Toto (die nu het hardst roepen) zelf in grote mate aan bijgedragen. Max doet daar niet aan. Marko en Horner hebben, nadat ze in de eerste helft van het seizoen het een en ander over zich heen hebben laten gaan (regelverandering binnen het seizoen voor 1. vleugels en 2. Pitstops (alles in het voordeel van Mercedes) daar in de tweede helft van het seizoen noodgedwongen wel aan meegedaan. Dat ligt ten grondslag aan de grote haat die mesen nu tegen de rijder uit het andere kamp hebben opgebouwd. Nu probeert men tevergeefs de geest weer in de fles te krijgen.

  precies, voor een rijder een compliment als ze je toejuichen, maar als je uitgejoeld wordt eigenlijk indirect ook, dan zien ze je als bedreiging voor hun eigen favorietje..
  Veel erger voor een rijder lijkt het me als je geen enkele reactie whatsoever losmaakt bij de fans. Bottas bijvoorbeeld. als hij wint of een interview geeft of wat dan ook dan kun je altijd een speld horen vallen :-)
