Szafnauer denkt dat Ocon leidende coureur kan worden

Het team van Alpine is momenteel het meest besproken team van de Formule 1. De Franse renstal moest tot hun verbazing opzoek naar een vervanger van Fernando Alonso, de Spanjaard rijdt vanaf aankomend seizoen voor Aston Martin. Men kondigde Oscar Piastri aan als opvolger van Alonso maar de Australiër ontkende. Ondanks de perikelen is er wel één stabiele kracht bij het team.

Esteban Ocon zal aankomend seizoen immers gewoon in actie komen voor het team van Alpine. De Fransman heeft nog gewoon een contract bij het team en lijkt momenteel de enige Alpine-coureur te zijn die zich niet probeert los te worstelen. Momenteel is Ocon bezig met een zeer solide seizoen en dat komt hem op veel complimenten van zijn teambaas te staan.

Alpine-teambaas Otmar Szafnauer is zeer lovend over zijn coureur. Szafnauer kent Ocon al zeer lang en hij weet dan ook wat hij kan verwachten van de Franse coureur. Szafnauer wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Esteban is een heel groot talent. Ik werkte met hem samen in de tijd dat hij de ploegmaat was van Sergio Perez bij Force India. Hij was toen net zo snel als Sergio en hij racete fel tegen hem. Soms kwamen ze elkaar dan ook tegen op de baan. We zien nu waar Sergio toe in staat is."

Leider

Szafnauer ziet dat Ocon momenteel moet groeien als de teamgenoot van Alonso. De teambaas denkt dat Ocon in de toekomst een grote rol kan gaan vervullen bij het team van Alpine: "Kan hij het team gaan leiden? Hij wordt beter en beter. Inmiddels heeft hij ook al een zege, Hongarije 2021, op zak. Daarnaast heeft hij dit seizoen als flink wat punten bij elkaar gereden. Hij leert nog genoeg voordat we bij het volgende seizoen zijn."

Kijk nou uit Otmar, straks wil Ocon helemaal geen teamleider worden, jaag je hem ook nog de tent uit en moet je zelf in de Alpine gaan rijden...

  Bijna goed. Ocon denkt al dat hij de leider is maar door te zeggen dat hij het kan worden wordt duidelijk dat hij het niet is. En daarmee jaag je hem weg ;-)

Als Ricciardo terug gaat naar Alpine (eerst Renault), dan denk ik dat Ricciardo opnieuw gehakt maakt van Ocon. Je zou het misschien niet denken vanwege zijn teleurstellende periode bij McLaren... maar kijk ook even naar het jaar dat Ricciardo en Ocon al teamgenoten waren. Hij liet geen spaan heel van Ocon. Ricciardo zal dus eerder met een glimlach terugkeren naar dit team, dan dat hij met bibberende handjes bang gaat zijn voor Ocon.
