Gasly looft Verstappen: "Hoop in de toekomst op nog een paar intense gevechten"

Max Verstappen is momenteel bezig met een bijzonder sterk seizoen. De Nederlander gaat ruim aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap en hij heeft nog geen foutje gemaakt. De Red Bull Racing-coureur krijgt veel lof van kenners, fans en oud-coureurs. Ook Verstappens huidige collega's zijn complimenteus.

Verstappen racete vroeger al tegen een aantal coureurs die hij momenteel tegenkomt in het huidige Formule 1-veld. Eén van die coureurs is Pierre Gasly. De Franse AlphaTauri-coureur heeft Verstappen van dichtbij meegemaakt toen hij in 2019 een half seizoen diens teamgenoot was bij Red Bull. Verstappen was overduidelijk de snelste en halverwege het seizoen werd Gasly teruggezet naar het toenmalige Toro Rosso.

Intense gevechten

Gasly racete in zijn jonge jaren ook tegen Verstappen. De Fransman is dan ook zeer lovend over de racekunsten van de Red Bull-coureur. In gesprek met The Express is hij eerlijk: "Het is altijd nogal intens geweest om tegen hem te racen. Ik heb altijd gehouden van de gevechten die we in het verleden hadden, de grens opzoeken bij het racen. Hij is overduidelijk extreem getalenteerd en uitmuntend. Ik denk dat de ervaring en de combinatie met wat hij met Red Bull heeft opgebouwd gewoon een ongelooflijk en efficiënt pakket vormen."

Nauwelijks fouten

Gasly erkent dat Verstappen in het begin van zijn Formule 1-loopbaan soms nogal wild was. Inmiddels is Verstappen één van de sterkste coureurs van het veld en Gasly hoopt ooit weer degens met hem te mogen kruisen: "Hij maakt nauwelijks fouten. Hij levert weekend na weekend uitmuntend werk en presteert op het niveau van het materiaal dat Red Bull hem geeft. Het is erg indrukwekkend. Zoals ik al eerder zei, het is altijd leuk om tegen hem te racen. Ik hoop in de toekomst nog een paar goede en intense gevechten met hem te hebben."

Tegen beter weten in hoop ik met Gasly mee.
Gasly komt tekort op een aantal punten: talent, auto, talent talent en talent.
Desalniettemin, elk fair en hard gevecht op de baan is mooi voor ons.

  Perez heeft contract tot en met 2023.
  In 2023 is Gasly vrij.
  
  Duidelijk dat Gasly dit en komend jaar de ultieme test krijgt en dan waarschijnlijk elders mag gaan zoeken. Volgens Margo mag Gasly eerder weg als er zich een goede kans voordoet. Marko werkt dan mee.
  Marko wil hem wel tot en met 2023 houden, maar dan moet Gasly dat willen.

  Gasly is niet wild, maar een ronde te sloom in dezelfde auto... een gevecht tussen die 2 zie ik niet gebeuren, of Verstappen moet met een bak schade rondrijden.

  Verstappen was natuurlijk in zijn puberjaren onbezonnen soms, te ongeduldig en te direct in de communicatie. Het ongeduld verdween na zijn slechtste F1 race ooit, die in China. Het onbezonnen racen verdween toen hij voor het kampioenschap kon gaan. Wat dat betreft hadden een aantal forumleden daar gelijk in. Verstappen is ondertussen nog steeds direct, maar laat zich niet meer verleiden door ondoordachte uitspraken.
  Alles wat er qua gedrag met hem gebeurde pas erg goed bij een puber in ontwikkeling. Wel grappig dat mensen hem nog steeds veroordelen gebaseerd op die periode.
  
  Als ik aan dat half jaar terugdenk. Heeft Gasly 1 keer met Verstappen kunnen 'vechten'. Silverstone. Daar hield hij Verstappen een paar rondes onterecht en onnodig op. Dat is het enoge dat ik me kan herinneren als het op Gasly versus Verstappen aankomt.

  Verder werd Gasly vooral door Max op grote achterstand gezet toen ze teamgenoten waren waaronder 3 keer op een ronde in 10 races
