Kritiek op Haas-trainingen Giovinazzi: "Ze moeten zich op hun eigen coureurs concentreren"

Het team van Haas kwam eerder deze week met opvallend nieuws naar buiten. De Amerikaanse renstal liet namelijk weten dat Antonio Giovinazzi in Monza en Austin een vrije training zal gaan rijden. Het nieuws was redelijk opvallend en zorgde voor een aantal scheve gezichten, ook Norbert Haug snapt er niets van.

Alle Formule 1-teams zijn dit seizoen verplicht om minimaal twee keer een rookie in te zetten in een vrije training. Giovinazzi is echter geen rookie, de Italiaan heeft al ruim drie seizoenen Formule 1-ervaring. Vorig seizoen reed Giovinazzi nog in de Formule 1 voor het team van Alfa Romeo. Dit seizoen fungeert hij als reservecoureur bij Ferrari en is hij actief in de Formule E.

Kritiek

Het nieuws kan op veel kritiek rekenen. Ook voormalig Mercedes-chef Norbert Haug snapt er niets van. In gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports is Haug zeer kritisch: "Elke kilometer die een coureur mist doet hem pijn in een raceweekend. Ik weet niet of er misschien een contractuele afspraak is met Ferrari. Een team als Haas zou zich meer moeten concentreren op zijn eigen coureurs."

Schumacher

Haug ziet de vrije trainingen van Giovinazzi ook als een soort steek in de richting van Mick Schumacher. De jonge Duitser staat immers onder grote druk bij het team van Haas. Haug hoopt dat men bij het Amerikaanse team meer gaat werken aan Schumacher: "Als je een coureur steunt en hem de kans geeft, pas dan komt er progressie. Een coureur is een echt renpaard en geen paard om mee te ploegen. Je moet hem moed geven."

Gewoon een test van Haas om te zien of ze Giovinazzi volgend jaar een plekje in het team willen geven of niet. Testen buiten de races mag helaas niet meer, dus dan maar 2x een vrije training geven.
Haas heeft gelukkig wel het licht gezien dat je met een goede coureur die punten kan scoren sportief meer bereikt dan met een pay driver met een aardige sponsor achter zich.

  Waarom zou je hem in de auto zetten. Deed leuke dingen, maar leuker dan Magnussen soms met de Haas kan was het ook weer niet.
  
  Daarnaast vraag ik me af of hij wel met dit type auto overweg kan.
  
  Ik denk dat Haas er beter aan doet om een van de top 3 F2 coureurs te halen.

Haug heeft geen moeite met het inzetten van Giovinazzi maar met het mogelijk afserveren van Nick.

  Volgens It. media heeft Ferrari (net als bij AR) geen inspraak meer over de Haas stoeltjes maar dat Gio dan toch daar een kans krijgt is opmerkelijk.
  Zowel Mick als Gio zijn beiden niet F1 waardig dus ik hoop toch dat Steiner kiest voor een talent.
