Leclerc redelijk tevreden: "Vooral gefocust op de racepace"

Charles Leclerc staat in België voor een fikse uitdaging. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur is namelijk één van de coureurs die voor de race van zondag een gridstraf ontvangt. Leclerc krijgt de beschikking over meerdere nieuwe motoronderdelen en zal daardoor naar achteren worden geplaatst op de startgrid. Tijdens de eerste trainingen focuste hij zich dan ook meer op racepace.

Op het circuit van Spa-Francorchamps noteerde Leclerc in de eerste vrije training de tweede tijd achter zijn teamgenoot Carlos Sainz. Ook in de tweede vrije training noteerde Leclerc de tweede tijd. In deze tweede training moest Leclerc alleen zijn rivaal Max Verstappen voor zich dulden. De Nederlander was wel bijna een volle seconde sneller dan de Ferrari van Leclerc.

Ander programma

Ondanks zijn fikse achterstand op Verstappen in de tweede vrije training was Leclerc wel tevreden. De Monegask verscheen na afloop voor de camera van Sky Sports: "Over het algemeen was het niet zo'n slechte dag vandaag. We hebben een paar dingen uitgetest. Iedereen werkte een ander programma af. Het was dus heel lastig om te beoordelen hoe iedereen uit de vakantie was gekomen. Over het algemeen was het gevoel best goed."

Racepace

Leclerc en zijn team Ferrari focusten zich in de eerste twee vrije trainingen vooral op racepace. Ze hebben immers een gridstraf voor de boeg. Leclerc is er nogal duidelijk over: "De pace met weinig brandstof leek best tegen te vallen. De pace met veel brandstof aan boord voelde best wel aardig. We blijven gewoon doorwerken en we willen vannacht een stap gaan zetten. We hebben niet zoveel aandacht gegeven aan de kwalificatie pace want dat is vrij nutteloos. We hebben ons dus gefocust op de racepace."

  Nee dit is gewoon gezond boerenverstand... Als je toch achteraan start, hoef je je auto niet af te stellen voor de kwalificatie hè.
