Wolff juicht komst Audi en Porsche toe: "Dit is goed nieuws"

Vrijdag werd de Formule 1-wereld wakker met groot nieuws. Audi maakte op een speciale persconferentie namelijk bekend dat ze vanaf 2026 mee gaan doen aan het wereldkampioenschap Formule 1. Audi zal naar verwachting het team van Sauber gaan opkopen. Het lijkt erop dat ook Porsche de sport gaat betreden, Toto Wolff juicht de komst van de merken toe.

Audi maakte vrijdag bekend dat ze vanaf 2026 de sport gaan betreden met een eigen Power Unit. Het heeft er alle schijn van dat ze het team van Sauber gaan opkopen en het team gaan omtoveren tot fabrieksteam. De aankondiging van Porsche zal waarschijnlijk ook snel volgen. Naar verwachting gaat Porsche samenwerken met het topteam van Red Bull Racing.

Goed nieuws

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff heeft er geen enkel probleem met de komst van de twee Volkswagen Group-merken. De Oostenrijker is tegenover Motorsport.com duidelijk: "Dit is goed nieuws. Er rijden al enorm sterke fabrikanten in de Formule 1 maar dit laat meteen de kracht van onze sport zien. Het is goed voor de sport om een aantal van de grootste automerken ter wereld als concurrent te hebben. Het gaat alleen nog maar lastiger worden met de komst van deze gasten."

Indekken

Wolff begrijpt ook wel waarom beide merken de sport op een andere manier gaan betreden. Audi zal immers gaan fungeren als een soort fabrieksteam terwijl Porsche een motorpartner gaat worden. Wolff snapt de keuze: "Dit is gewoon een kwestie van indekken. Het ene merk wordt een fabrieksteam in Zwitserland en het andere merkt gaat samenwerken met één van de beste Formule 1-teams ter wereld. Het is een tweesporenstrategie. Dat klinkt voor mij logisch."

Grootste voordeel van Audi is dat ze vol investeren in een bestaand team, dat dit zelf nauwelijks kan doen.

Bij Porsche weet niet echt wat het voordeel gaat zijn behalve eventueel splitten van de rekening.

Ik blijf erbij dat ik graag nieuwe entrees zou willen zien. Nu met straks 5 motorfabrikanten zijn er ook genoeg leveranciers om die extra 2 teams van een motor te voorzien.

  De F1 is niet dol op nieuwe teams, zowel de organisatie als de aanwezige teams. Je moet gewoon een bestaand team overnemen en anders wegblijven. Dat is ook waarom Toyota met de nek aangekeken werd.
  
  Een groot voordeel van het overnemen van Sauber is overigens dat de basis voor een goed team er in feite ligt. Het is een van de weinige teams met een serieuze windtunnel die dus niet from scratch gebouwd hoeft te worden; iets dat in de regel twee jaar duurt als alles perfect gaat.

Toch raar dat Wolff de Duitsers wel ziet zitten ..maar over de Amerikanen moeilijk doet om het zo te zeggen .

  Volgens petertje gaan er zware geruchten dat Porsche en Red Bull niet samen in zee gaan.
  Als dat waar is dan weet Wolff dit, die uiteraard goed geïnformeerd is.
  Dan is Red Bull weer even leugenaar.
  Eerder heeft hij nog geroepen dat het zwaar zal zijn als de 2 er bij komen.

  Is niet raar.
  Andretti wilt als NIEUW team op de grid komen. Dus het 11e team.
  
  Bij Audi/Porsche blijven de huidige teams op de grid. Alleen 1 team wordt omgedoopt naar Audi.
  F1 heeft zelf al aangegeven dat de enige optie die Andretti heeft is om een bestaand team op te kopen.

  Hij is niet tegen Andretti, maar was, terecht, gewoon kritisch over wat er nodig is voor een team om de F1 in te komen. Daarnaast komen zowel Porsche als Audi niet met een extra team, dus dan zijn de teambazen in de regel wat welwillender, omdat ze de pot dan niet met een grotere hoeveelheid teams hoeven te delen.

  Pfff ontspan eens man! Waar kan je je druk overmaken. Zoveel focus op Wolff & Mercedes, de pagina staat er hier dagelijks vol mee. Allemaal "fans" die na het tijdperk Max Verstappen weer zijn vertrokken. Geniet van Max en wat hij allemaal laat zien.
