Steiner spreekt zich uit over Ricciardo-geruchten: "Wie zegt dat Mick weggaat?"

Vorige week maakte het team van McLaren bekend dat ze na dit seizoen afscheid nemen van Daniel Ricciardo. Het is nog niet duidelijk waar de Australiër volgend seizoen zal rijden. Ricciardo wordt in verband gebracht met meerdere teams, in de afgelopen week ging het veelvuldig over een mogelijke overstap naar Haas.

De Amerikaanse renstal heeft voor 2023 nog één stoeltje vrij. Kevin Magnussen tekende begin dit jaar een langdurig contract bij het team waardoor hij ook voor volgend seizoen verzekerd is van een stoeltje. Het contract van Mick Schumacher loopt echter af, dat betekent overigens niet dat hij zijn biezen moet pakken. Haas sluit een nieuwe deal met Schumacher niet uit maar spreekt ook openlijk met andere coureurs.

Risico

Haas-teambaas Günther Steiner stak zijn bewondering voor Ricciardo afgelopen week niet onder stoelen of banken. De Italiaan wilde eveneens niet op de zaken vooruit lopen in gesprek met Auto Bild: "Nemen we een risico met een coureur als Ricciardo die het nu moeilijk heeft bij McLaren of blijven we bij wat we kennen? Wie zegt dat Mick weggaat? De media zegt dat, ik niet. Ik zeg dat alles open ligt."

Vertrekt Schumacher?

De naam van Schumacher wordt ook in verband gebracht met andere teams. Het is dan ook nog lang niet zeker of de Duitser wel bij Haas wil blijven. Steiner gaat een transfer van Schumacher niet tegenhouden: "Als hij wil vertrekken, dan is dat zo. Dan is het onze fout en moeten we een andere oplossing zoeken. Momenteel is het mijn taak om af te wegen wie er beter is. Ricciardo kan beter zijn als hij zijn oude vorm terugvindt."

Steiner weet zoals iedereen Mick is niet het beste wat er is aan rijders, dus kan Haas zich verbeteren dan zullen ze dat doen.

Je kan 1 jaar proberen met Daniel, die heeft 15 miljoen meegekregen, dus kan je Daniel een laag salaris aanbieden.

“Ricciardo kan beter zijn als hij zijn oude vorm terugvindt."

Die oude vorm is inmiddels al weer 5 jaar of langer geleden. Ik mag Ricciardo graag zien rijden maar snel is hij niet meer en dat gaat echt niet ineens veranderen. Ik zou de keuze voor Ricciardo dan ook niet begrijpen, maar ik begrijp de rijderskeuze van Haas wel vaker niet.

  Gisteren was ook weer niet best. Oke hij had een lage topspeed, maar vroeger remde hij zo laat dat hij er alsnog voor bleef.

  @TylaHunter Als je zo vaak over de knie gaat, als dat Ricciardo doet... dan word je vanzelf onzeker. En dat is precies wat we terug zien in zijn rijstijl.

  Opvallend om te zien dat Norris, ook al zit hij achter Ricciardo, voordeel krijgt via de strategie.
  
  Niet eerder op gelet bij eerdere races. Maar het lijkt mij niet motiverend. En het is ook netjes dat Ricciardo er niet over klaagt.

Op de vraag of hij volgend jaar verder wil met Mick, liet Steiner een lange stilte vallen en gaf niet echt antwoord.
Dat is blijkbaar voor sommigen in de journalistiek voldoende om geruchten te verspreiden.... weet je iig dat je lezers trekt.

  Steiner geeft wel aan geen trek te hebben in rookies, maar ik vind Drugovich wel heel erg volwassen ogen voor een F2 coureur.
