Hamilton steunt Ricciardo: "Ik hoop dat er nog een mooi plekje voor hem is"

Vlak voor de Belgische Grand Prix maakte het team van McLaren bekend dat Daniel Ricciardo het team na dit seizoen gaat verlaten. Het nieuws kwam voor weinig mensen als een verrassing maar het was wel opvallend, Ricciardo had immers nog een doorlopend contract. Veel coureurs spreken hun medeleven uit voor de Australiër.

Het is overduidelijk dat Ricciardo zijn helm nog niet aan de wilgen wil hangen. De Australiër liet duidelijk weten dat hij nog op zoek is naar een stoeltje voor het aankomende seizoen. Ricciardo werd afgelopen week in verband gebracht met het team van Haas maar hoe serieus dit was is niet bekend. Het is dan ook de vraag of Ricciardo nog we een stoeltje gaat vinden voor 2023.

Korte contracten

Ricciardo krijgt vooralsnog veel steun van zijn collega's. De Australiër had een doorlopend contract maar toch vertrekt hij bij het team. Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton spreekt zich uit over de zaak en wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: " Vanuit mijn ervaring zie ik dat er altijd voordelen en nadelen zijn bij alle scenario's. Ik weet nog dat toen ik bij McLaren tekende, ik een soort lening had getekend. Ik dacht toen dat dat goed was. Wanneer je korte deals tekent... het neemt tijd in beslag om goede relaties op te bouwen. Dat is niet iets wat je in een half jaar kan doen."

Onfortuinlijk

Hamilton staat dan ook achter Ricciardo. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen hoopt dat zijn Australische collega snel een nieuw zitje zal vinden voor het aankomende seizoen: "Het is echt heel erg onfortuinlijk voor Daniel. Ik denk nog altijd dat hij een plekje verdient in onze sport. Ik hoop dus dat er nog ergens een mooi plekje voor hem vrij is want hij heeft het nog steeds in zich om te presteren."

Toen Hamilton tekende bij McLaren tekende hij voor een soort lening? Wat is het volgende? Komt Ricciardo straks naar buiten met het verhaal dat hij namens McLaren naar Tupperware partys moest? Of Herbalife aan moest prijzen bij huisvrouwtjes?

Zal wel weer een slechte vertaling zijn geweest.

  Uit het originele artikel wordt het niet duidelijker. Ik denk dat hij bedoelt dat het allemaal redelijk korte termijn was en alsof je een soort lening afsluit voor een korte termijn ipv een langdurige relatie waarin je samen in een proces van ontwikkeling kan gaan met een team dat je goed leert kennen en daardoor optimaal kan werken. Zoiets.
  
  Kan me niet voorstellen dat het niet duidelijker verteld is, en dat de schrijver in kwestie de kantjes ervan afgelopen heeft. Of de journalist op locatie heeft niet goed doorgevraagd.

Ik ook, in de WEC of zoiets. Maar in de F1 is het helaas over en sluiten, ik denk dat-ie zelfs in de USA niet mee kan komen op die ovals.

  Bwoah, stel dat hij naar Alpine of zo gaat en daar weer op niveau komt, dan is Ricciardo feitelijk alleen maar bij McLaren de mist in gegaan.
  Ben daar toch wel nieuwsgierig naar...

  Daar heb je zeker een punt. Het heeft ook wel een beetje met persoonlijke voorkeur te maken, ik ben nooit zo’n grote Ricciardo fan geweest.
  
  Mocht hij weer op niveau komen hoort hij natuurlijk wel in de f1 thuis, zonder twijfel. Ben benieuwd of hij z’n vorm terug gaat vinden als hij ergens een plekje krijgt.
