Perez baalt na pijnlijke spin: "Geluk dat ik niet de gehele auto beschadigde"

Sergio Perez speelde een ongelukkige hoofdrol in de slotfase van de kwalificatie op het iconische circuit van Zandvoort. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur ging de fout in en spinde. In de kombocht ging het mis en vond hij zichzelf terug in het gras onderaan de bocht. De gele vlaggen kwamen uit en niemand kon zich meer verbeteren.

Perez zorgde er met zijn foutje voor dat de coureurs achter hem zich niet meer konden verbeteren. Hierdoor greep zijn teamgenoot Max Verstappen immers de pole. Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton was één van de mannen die nog bezig was met een snelle rondje. De Brit moest echter in de remmen knijpen vanwege de onfortuinlijke spin van Perez in de kombocht.

Geluk

Perez start de race morgen vanaf de vijfde plaats. De Red Bull-coureur baalde na afloop van de kwalificatie als een stekker en sprak zich uit bij Sky Sports: "Ik had geluk dat ik niet de gehele auto zwaar beschadigde want het leek een harde klap te gaan worden. Ik kwam de bocht best goed in en toen ging ik te vroeg op het gas. Ik raakte het grind heel lichtjes en daarna verloor ik de achterkant. Ik was bezig met een goed rondje maar kon mij dus niet verbeteren."

Pessimistisch

Perez heeft dan ook niet zoveel vertrouwen voor de dag van morgen. De Mexicaan moet vanaf de vijfde plek starten en komt bij de start dus vanaf de derde startrij. Hij toonde zich na de sessie redelijk pessimistisch: "Het wordt nogal tricky om progressie te gaan maken. Ik ga mijn best doen om morgen een sterke race te rijden want dat wordt heel erg belangrijk. We hebben goede opties voor morgen."

Hij was ook wel een beetje heel erg wijd daar he...

Zit er de hele weekend al niet lekker bij en probeerde er vast iets uit te halen wat er niet in zat.

P1 Verstappen en P5 perez... gewoon goed voor Verstappens kampioenschap.

  Een RB18 die sneller is geworden met een strakker insturende voorkant en lossere achterkant.. Vergt echter wel meer gevoel en kunde van de coureur.. Iets wat Verstappen wel heeft en Perez niet.. Vandaar het verschil tussen die 2 en waarom Perez in deze de achterkant weer kwijt raakte..
