Leclerc steekt hand in eigen boezem: "Ik maakte een foutje in bocht tien"

Charles Leclerc kwam in de kwalificatie in Zandvoort niet verder dan de tweede plaats. De Monegask was een fractie van een seconde langzamer dan zijn Red Bull-concurrent Max Verstappen. De Ferrari-coureur was na afloop redelijk teleurgesteld maar hij wist dondergoed wat er mis was gegaan in zijn allesbeslissende run.

Het verschil tussen de teams van Ferrari en Red Bull Racing is al het gehele weekend zeer klein. Ook in de kwalificatie van vanmiddag was dit het geval. Leclerc was uiteindelijk slechts 0,021 seconde langzamer dan zijn Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-concurrent. Leclerc dacht stiekem aan de pole position maar hij sneed zichzelf in de vingers.

Foutje

Na afloop van de kwalificatie verscheen de Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur voor de camera's van de internationale media. Tegenover de Britse tak van Sky Sports sprak hij zich uit: "Ik weet exact waar ik het verschil kon maken. Het is nogal duidelijk als je naar de onboards gaat kijken. Ik maakte namelijk een foutje in bocht tien en ik ging daar heel wijd. Ik verloor ongeveer een tiende vergeleken met mijn voorgaande rondje. Dat gebeurt als je tot de limiet pusht."

Vanouds

Leclerc kijkt met zeer veel zelfvertrouwen naar de dag van morgen. De Monegask denkt dat er wel veel meer in het vat zit. Leclerc voelde zich weer zoals vanouds: "Het is goed dat we terug zijn op de positie waar we aan het begin van het seizoen ook waren. De pole zat vandaag zeker in de auto. Ik kreeg het alleen niet voor elkaar. In de laatste vijf races voelde ik mij vier keer niet op mijn gemak met de balans in de kwalificatie."

Voor de race wellicht leuker geweest als Leclerc van pole was gestart. Ferrari de snellere q auto maar ik denk rbr de snellere racewagen.

  Ik zit nog wel eens onboards te kijken en echt hoor ik zeg het al maanden, dumpen die race engineer. Wat een verschil met bijvoorbeeld GP Lambiase. Hoeveel punten heeft hij verloren door die oelenwapper?

Dat is het mooie aan de kwalificatie. Het is nooit perfect, het gaat erom wie het dichtst bij de perfectie komt

  Als dat zo zou zijn had ik inderdaad niet gereageerd.
  Jammer dat je meteen persoonlijk wordt terwijl wij elkaar totaal niet kennen.
  
  In de praktijk kan het echter zo zijn dat je een bepaald niet perfect rondje (of niet het dichtst daar tegen aan) toch pole kunt pakken. En het gaat vooral om de pole toch...

  Perfectie betekent volmaakt. Een volmaakte ronde dus. Een ronde niet binnen de regels is dus niet volmaakt.

Het zit met de top 3 renstallen zo dichtbij, dat het morgen wel een goeie race móet worden.
Ik zou het mooi vinden als er ook vanaf ronde 12 nog meerdere gevechten vooraan plaatsvinden. Spa was prachtig qua uitslag en opmars van Max, maar hier mogen ze echt wel dichtbij elkaar racen de hele tijd.

  Ik vermoed dat er enkel bij de eerste pitstop wat spanning is en dat dan de race grotendeels gereden is.
  Zandvoort blijft Zandvoort jammer genoeg.
  Ik denk dat deze track leuk is voor de rijders maar voor de fans?
  Van mij mag deze race weg van de kalender wat ik uiteraard erg zou vinden voor Max en zijn echte aanhang.
