Perez tevreden met verwijderen sausagekerbs: "Heeft te lang geduurd"

Het circuit van Monza ziet er dit weekend iets anders uit dan voorheen. Op de Italiaanse baan zijn namelijk enkele kleine aanpassingen doorgevoerd. Op een paar plekken is er nieuw asfalt gelegd en daarnaast is er een ergernis van veel coureurs verdwenen. De sausagekerbs in de tweede chicane zijn namelijk verleden tijd.

De sausagekerbs zijn al geruime tijd een doorn in het oog van veel coureurs. De hogere kerbs liggen op veel circuits en zorgen vaak voor ernstige ongelukken. Op het circuit van Monza is het in het verleden al vaker fout gegaan. Eerder dit jaar werd Henrique Chaves bijvoorbeeld gelanceerd tijdens een race in het WEC op het Italiaanse circuit. De coureurs willen dan ook al geruime tijd afscheid nemen van de sausagekerbs.

Ook Red Bull Racing-coureur Sergio Perez is opgelucht dat de kerbs zijn verdwenen in Monza. De Mexicaan begrijpt niet waarom men zo lang heeft gewacht met het verwijderen van deze 'broodjes'. Tegenover Motorsport.com is hij nogal duidelijk: "Het heeft te lang geduurd voordat ze verwijderd zijn. Een paar jaar geleden zagen we bijvoorbeeld al hoe gevaarlijk het is. Er is gelukkig nog nooit iets ernstigs gebeurd. Maar het is in ieder geval goed dat ze verdwenen zijn. Het kan nare crashes opleveren."
