Verstappen kent geen problemen op vrijdag: "Auto voelde goed aan"

Max Verstappen heeft een positieve vrijdag achter de rug op het circuit van Monza. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur noteerde in de tweede vrije training de tweede tijd, hij was net iets langzamer dan Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz. Verstappen zelf kijkt ook met een goed gevoel terug op de eerste dag van het raceweekend.

Verstappen zal de race aankomende zondag niet starten vanaf de eerste startplaats. De Nederlander ontvangt immers een gridstraf van vijf plaatsen. De snelheid zat er op vrijdag echter goed in waardoor een zege zeker niet is uitgesloten. De Nederlandse leider in het wereldkampioenschap heeft positieve punten gezien voor de rest van het weekend.

Uitproberen

Bij Red Bull leek er geen vuiltje aan de lucht te zijn na afloop van de tweede vrije training. Verstappen zelf is heel erg tevreden en had geen problemen met zijn auto. Na afloop sprak hij zich uit tegenover Verstappen.com: "De auto voelde goed aan. We hebben een paar dingen uitgeprobeerd om te begrijpen of we het iets beter konden doen. Sommige dingen werkten, anderen weer niet."

Gridstraf

Twee weken geleden ontving Verstappen in Spa ook een gridstraf. Op het Belgische circuit moest hij redelijk ver naar achteren starten maar schreef hij de race alsnog op zijn naam. In Monza verwacht hij een ander soort race: "Er zijn nog steeds wat dingetjes die we kunnen verbeteren. Monza is natuurlijk niet hetzelfde als Spa maar als het hier ook maar half zo goed gaat hebben we zeker een goede kans."
