Verstappen onder de indruk van Red Bull Powertrains: "Je moet het niet onderschatten"

Vorige week werd duidelijk dat de onderhandelingen tussen Porsche en Red Bull Racing zijn stukgelopen. De Duitse autofabrikant wilde graag motoren gaan leveren vanaf 2026. Maar naast het leveren van motoren wilden ze ook een groter aandeel in het team. Red Bull weigerde dat. De Oostenrijkers maken zich daarnaast ook geen zorgen over de nieuwe motorreglementen.

Die reglementen gaan vanaf 2026 gelden. Aangezien Red Bull sinds dit jaar officieel gezien niet meer rijdt met Honda-motoren, de krachtbronnen worden nog wel gebouwd in Japan, moeten ze in 2026 met een oplossing komen. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft een eigen motorafdeling opgezet: Red Bull Powertrains. Het vertrouwen in dit project is groot en de ontwikkeling is nu al in volle gang.

Ook Red Bull-coureur Max Verstappen heeft vertrouwen in het eigen motorenproject. De Nederlander tekende eerder dit jaar een langdurig contract bij het team en zal in 2026 dus gaan rijden met de zelfgemaakte motor. Hij is er enthousiast over in gesprek met de internationale pers: "Ik ben er zelf nog niet geweest. Ik hoor natuurlijk al die verhalen van Christian Horner en Helmut Marko. Het is behoorlijk indrukwekkend wat ze daar momenteel doen en wat er nog gaat komen. Het is veel werk. Het is iets wat je niet moet onderschatten."

    Het is indrukwekkend, maar het is veel werk dat je niet moet onderschatten...

    Max wacht de 'uitkomst' dus nog af.
    Dat is wat anders dan dat Verstappen "vertrouwen in het eigen motorenproject heeft."

    zelf een moter bouwen voor een f1 auto...
    dat kan, maar vergt jarenlange ervaring om dat ding snel, betrouwbaar en zuinig te krijgen.
    Als dat ze lukt in de eerste 2 jaar dan hebben ze hulp van buitenaf gekregen.
    Is hetzelfde om bijvoorbeeld hetzelfde voor elkaar te krijgen in 5 jaar tijd wat ASML nu doet.
    Gaat je nooit niet lukken......

      Als je de helft van de ASML engineers weg koopt, kan dat zomaar lukken in 5 jaar.

      En ze hebben niet alleen bij Mercedes lopen shoppen maar ook bij andere partijen. Ik denk dat ze genoeg kennis hebben om het te doen.

      Dan komen ze volgend jaar met een straatauto waar een geknepen versie van dat blok in zit, en kunnen ze lekker op het circuit testen. Net zoals de AMG One

      Gelukkig hebben ze genoeg ervaring ingekocht en hebben ze nog 4 jaar. Dus zou zo maar eens goed kunnen komen, maar mischien ook niet 😉
