Binotto wil verandering zien bij motorstraffen: "Misschien is drie PU's te weinig"

In de Formule 1 is momenteel veel te doen omtrent de motorstraffen. Vorige week ontvingen veel coureurs een gridstraf in Monza vanwege een motorwissel. De gridstraffenregen zorgde voor veel onduidelijkheid onder fans en volgers en meerdere kenners willen verandering zien. Mattia Binotto wil ook verandering zien.

Dit seizoen mogen de coureurs slechts drie motoren gebruiken. Zodra een coureur bij een motorcomponent de limiet overschrijdt volgt er een gridstraf. Veel coureurs overschrijden deze limiet en regelmatig pakken veel coureurs in hetzelfde raceweekend een gridstraf. Hierdoor wordt het opstellen van de startopstelling een enorme puzzel. Ook in Monza was dit het geval en dat leidde tot veel ergernis en verwarring.

Ferrari-teambaas Mattia Binotto wil dat men de regels nog een keertje gaat bekijken. Binotto denkt dat de coureurs meer power units moeten kunnen gebruiken. In gesprek met Motorsport.com is hij duidelijk: "Ik denk dat het voor de fans lastig is om een coureur een pole te zien pakken om hem dan vervolgens ergens anders te zien starten vanwege een gridstraf. Misschien is drie PU's per coureur wel te weinig voor wat we tot dusver hebben bereikt."

    Eens met Binotto, 3 PU op 23 wedstrijden is te weinig. Regel is ingevoerd toen er 16 wedstrijden werden gereden dacht ik me te herinneren. 4 PU lijkt me meer realistischer.

      Het is wel realistischer misschien, maar minder leuk voor de kijker! Zo.n weekend wanneer de F1 helden ergens achteraan moeten starten vind ik wel iets hebben.

      Het maakt niets uit. Als je 4 PU's toestaat, zullen ze daarvan de limiet opzoeken en ook dan krijg je penalties omdat er een PU moet worden vervangen.

      Meer toestaan verandert dus niets. Motorleveranciers moeten gewoon zorgen dat de motoren betrouwbaar genoeg zijn om 8 races mee te gaan. Maar ja, men berekent doodleuk wat het voordeel is als ze maar 6 races mee hoeven te gaan.
      Ze hebben dan meer power, maar dan moeten ze een extra motor toevoegen, dus dan berekenen ze ook wat dat betekent en op welk circuit dat kan met het minste verlies.

      De straf voor een extra motor is nu 10 plaatsen, en de volgen maar 5. Ik zou dat liever andersom hebben, dus de eerste 5 plaatsen,.de tweede 10, en een eventuele derde 15 plaatsen. Dan wordt het steeds lastiger om een extra motor te nemen, maar nu is het (zeker voor de snelle jongens) een onbeduidende straf.

      15 plaatsen straf geven voegt weinig toe, omdat dat maar impact heeft op een paar coureurs. Zelfs als je als snelste kwalificeert, kom je nog op P16 terecht, met dus slechts 4 coureurs achter je. Dus vanaf P5 in kwalificatie zou je dan sowieso achteraan starten. En je kunt iemand niet startplaats 30 geven als hij zich op P15 kwalificeert. :-)

      Wat ze denk ik wel kunnen doen, is gewicht toevoegen bij het inzetten van een nieuwe motor. Dus de eerste nieuwe motor betekent 10kg ballast in de auto voor één race.. De tweede nieuwe motor betekent dan 15kg extra ballast in de auto, enzovoorts.

      Je kunt dan nog steeds van pole starten, maar tijdens de race ga je wel last hebben van dat extra gewicht. Zowel in performance, brandstofverbruik als bandenslijtage.
      Dus voor een team kan het dan juist interessanter zijn om dat in Monaco te doen, in plaats van op Monza of Spa.

      Voordeel is dat het voor het grote publiek veel makkelijker is uit te leggen, want iedereen start gewoon op zijn kwalificatiepositie.

      Of dat extra gewicht nu 5kg, 10kg of 15kg is, maakt me niet zoveel uit. Zolang het maar impact heeft op de performance. En 10kg extra kost je zo'n 3 tienden per ronde, dus dat lijkt me al een forse impact.

      Dat extra gewicht lijkt me juist vreselijk om te zien. Van achteruit komen zien we tenminste extra actie (gridstraf).

      De kwalificatiemotoren die na 1 kwalificatie gereviseerd moesten worden met 1500 PK tijdens die kwalificatie en raar ruikende benzine

      Ja, de kwalificatie motoren waren cool. Pure power voor een paar rondjes.
      Maar ja, toen had je ook nog een T-car waarin de coureur kon springen bij een crash in de eerste bocht of zo.
      Toen waren motoren ook nog betrekkelijk eenvoudig en de kosten aanzienlijk lager.

      Ja toen was een motor puur mechanisme. Nu met deze technologie, hybride en softwarematisch gedoe is dat niet meer te doen. Maar ik zeg, liever toch lekker terug naar V10 ;)
