Wolff geeft toe dat het maanden duurde om problemen W13 op te lossen

Het team van Mercedes kent een redelijk teleurstellend seizoen. De Duitse regerend constructeurskampioen kan de degens amper kruisen met Red Bull Racing en Ferrari. Mercedes kwam veel performance tekort en kampte met meerdere problemen. De problemen zijn nu verleden tijd maar het vinden van een oplossing kostte veel tijd.

Mercedes wilde dit seizoen sportief revanche nemen nadat Lewis Hamilton vorig jaar in de laatste ronde van het seizoen de wereldtitel verspeelde. De Duitse renstal is echter bezig met een teleurstellend jaar waarin ze veel performance tekort komen. Men had daarnaast ook veel last van porpoising en moest veel aandacht besteden aan het vinden van een oplossing.

Ontbreken

De problemen lijken nu verleden tijd te zijn en men focust zich steeds meer en meer op 2023. Mercedes wil dit seizoen wel meer successen boeken maar de route daarnaartoe is lang. Teambaas Toto Wolff spreekt zich uit bij Motorsport.com: "Voor de auto die we eerst hadden gemaakt ontbraken de hulpmiddelen, de simulaties en het inzicht om te detecteren waar de problemen zich bevonden in onze auto."

Maanden

Coureurs Lewis Hamilton en George Russell worstelden in de openingsfase van het seizoen met de Mercedes W13. Ook Wolff geeft toe dat het lang duurde voordat alles naar wens verliep: "We konden de aerodynamica van de auto niet gebruiken zoals we dat zelf graag wilden. Mechanisch gezien was de auto nooit echt goed afgesteld. Het duurde maanden om sommige keuzes van de auto ongedaan te kunnen maken."

Mercedes is met de W13 nu op het punt waar Red Bull was tijdens de GP van Spanje. De auto doet wat ze ervan verwachten en nu is het doorontwikkelen om te optimaliseren. Oftewel, ze lopen een half jaar achter met deze auto. Ferrari lijkt wat stilgevallen te zijn in het doorontwikkelen.

    Het voordeel, en daarmee luxe van de extra pk’s is er niet meer, dus zal het verschil gemaakt moeten worden met het chassis. Volgens insiders is Ferrari en Honda op performance Mercedes gepasseerd, en dan de budget cap er ook nog bij, maakt het er niet makkelijker op.

      Ik denk zelfs dat Red Bull nu gezien is en aan de horizon verdwijnt .
      Ze hebben nu zon grote voorsprong op de meeste circuits dat men al met gemak naar volgend jaar kan kijken nu en nu al extra tijd kan stoppen in de ontwikkeling van volgend jaar .

      Ik denk dat Japan ook zo'n slachtveld wordt voor alles achter Max. Dat circuit vertoont veel overeenkomsten met Spa en ik denk dat de RB18 met Max aan het stuur daar weer een genadeloos groot gat gaat slaan en daar zal de wereldtitel door Max veiliggesteld worden.

      Ik vind het juist meer op Zandvoort lijken qua baan maar dan groter. In ieder geval is Suzuka een oude stijl baan en dat is altijd goed.

      Waarom zou mer hun motor niet kunnen door ontwikkelen en weer de beste worden?
      Immers, Honda en fer hebben dat ook kunnen/mogen doen.

      SennaS tot vorige maand mocht je de mguh nog door ontwikkelen, maar die ligt nu ook vast. Wat je nu hebt mag je tot 2026 niets meer aan veranderen of je kunt aannemelijk maken dat het is om de betrouwbaarheid te verbeteren.

    Excusez-moi??? Op Spa waren ze bijna 2 seconden langzamer en op Monza was het gewoon ook niet goed. Ze hebben vooral vooruitgang gemaakt op Ferrari, niet op RedBull. Ferrari is sowieso al een tijdje de weg kwijt met updates als ik The Race mag geloven.
    Ik voorzie ook een moeilijk 2023 voor Mercedes. Jammer voor hun.

    2 weken geleden wisten ze nog niet waar de grillige prestaties door kwamen en nou leek het niet of het lek boven was in monza. Dus ik vraag me oprecht af waar het "opgeloste probleem " verhaal op gebaseert is

      Ze hebben werkelijk waar echt geen idee waarom die Mercedes op het ene circuit wel goed is en op het andere circuit zwaar performance tekort komt.
      Ik kan er wel van genieten na zoveel jaren van dominatie.
