Rosberg vindt McLaren-move Piastri 'dapper': "Hij verslaat Lando of hij ligt uit de sport"

Afgelopen zomer was er veel te doen omtrent Oscar Piastri. De getalenteerde Australiër ontkende een contract bij Alpine en had zijn zinnen gezet op een stoeltje bij McLaren. Na tussenkomst van de CRB tekende Piastri inderdaad een contract bij McLaren voor 2023. Nico Rosberg vindt het maar een opvallende move.

Piastri was in de afgelopen jaren actief in het juniorenprogramma van Alpine. De Australiër reed rond met het logo van de Franse renstal op zijn borst. Na zijn Formule 2-titel in 2021 kreeg hij echter geen Formule 1-stoeltje van Alpine. Hij moest het dit jaar doen met een reserverol en werkte meerdere tests af. Na het aangekondigde vertrek van Fernando Alonso leek hij de gedoodverfde opvolger te zijn. Hij vertrok dus naar McLaren waar hij Daniel Ricciardo gaat opvolgen.

Dapper

Bij McLaren wordt Lando Norris de nieuwe teamgenoot van Piastri. De Brit wordt gezien als één van de grootste talenten in het Formule 1-veld. Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Nico Rosberg laat zijn twijfel dan ook horen bij Sky Sports: "Het is een dappere move van Oscar. Het is zo dat hij of Lando verslaat of hij ligt in principe uit de sport. Het is een zware taak maar hij gelooft in zichzelf. Als je denkt dat je goed bent, dan moet je er vol voor gaan."

Kans grijpen

Rosberg begrijpt daarnaast ook heus wel dat Piastri kiest voor een kans bij McLaren. De Duitse enkelvoudig wereldkampioen steunt Piastri dan ook in zijn keuze en deelt zijn redenatie: "Als je een jonge coureur bent en je krijgt de kans om te racen voor McLaren, dan moet je die grijpen. Dit soort kansen komen niet altijd zomaar voorbij dus hij heeft eigenlijk alles goed gedaan."

Maar mijn glazenbol komt dan ook van de Wibra en die van Rosberg uit een leuk winkeltje in Monaco.

Dat denk ik niet. Ik denk dat Piastri 2 a 3 jaar de tijd krijgt om op niveau van Lando te komen. Op dat moment loopt t contract van Lando af, gaat naar Mercedes en Piastri krijgt een verlenging...

Maar mijn glazenbol komt dan ook van de Wibra en die van Rosberg uit een leuk winkeltje in Monaco.

  Ik denk dat je heel erg gelijk kan hebben met je Wibra glazenbol.
  Lando zal op zeker moment het beu worden om maar niet te kunnen winnen met Mclaren, en is tegen die tijd rijp voor een zitje bij Mercedes (als Hamilton vertrekt), of naast zijn goede maat Max bij Red Bull (Lando is qua imago en persoon een rijder die goed bij Red Bull past).
  
  Piastri zal dan het stokje overnemen, en heeft waarschijnlijk genoeg talent om het waar te maken. Maar direct al uit de sport liggen als hij niet DIRECT al op Lando's niveau zit, nee dat denk ik niet. Er zal altijd een ander team zijn die hem nog een kans wilt geven, en anders kan hij echt wel in een andere klasse terecht. "Uit de sport liggen" is wel een heel zware bewoording van Rosberg.

  Dan komt die bol van jou en Rosberg van de de zelfde fabriek. Alleen heeft Rosberg er dan de hoofdprijs voor gegeven.
  
  Maar ik geloof meer in jou scenario. Piastri lijkt me te veel talent hebben om gedeklasseerd te worden. Wat goed is komt vanzelf.

  Ome Helmut heeft Lando al een aanbieding gedaan om naar Red Bull te komen maar Lando heeft deze heel verstandig naast zich neergelegd. Naast Max kan je alleen maar verliezen, net als Piastri naast Lando.

Onzin. Het is geen schande om van Norris te verliezen.
Als hij gewoon lekker zijn ding doet en af en toe iets moois laat zien, kan hij daarmee prima zijn plekje in de F1 veilig stellen.
