Verstappen denkt niet aan wereldtitel: "Ik wil het race voor race bekijken"

Max Verstappen kan in theorie wereldkampioen worden in Singapore. De Grand Prix in de Aziatische stadsstaat staat aankomend weekend op het programma en keert terug na een afwezigheid van twee jaar. Verstappen wil echter nog niet aan de wereldtitel denken en kijkt vooral uit naar de nachtrace.

Verstappen kan zijn tweede wereldtitel haast niet meer ontgaan. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur heeft een riante voorsprong in het wereldkampioenschap en het is de verwachting dat hij in Singapore of Japan de titel binnenhaalt. In theorie zouden ook Sergio Perez en Charles Leclerc nog de titel kunnen pakken, niemand gaat daar echter vanuit.

Goede kwalificatie

Verstappen zelf denkt nog niet ook een mogelijke tweede wereldtitel. De Nederlander bekijkt het race voor race en kijkt vooral uit naar de Grand Prix in Singapore. In gesprek met Verstappen.com kijkt hij vooruit: "Het is belangrijk om een goede kwalificatie te rijden, daar moeten we ons dus op concentreren. Tijdens de race moeten we overal op voorbereid zijn want er zijn meestal veel Safety Cars. Over het algemeen is het een uitdagend circuit. De luchtvochtigheid is zwaar voor het lichaam en het is moeilijk om een perfecte ronde te rijden vanwege de krappe bochten en de vangrails direct naast de baan."

Race voor race

Verstappen zelf heeft daarnaast ook wel door dat men een tweede wereldtitel van hem verwacht. De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen wil daar echter nog niet teveel aan denken. Hij focust zich alleen maar op de nachtrace door de straten van Singapore: "Ik denk niet echt aan het kampioenschap. Ik wil gewoon een positief weekend op de baan hebben en het race voor race bekijken. Er is geen haast."

Niet uitvallen, zo hoog mogelijk finishen en de titel komt vanzelf

In Singapore is hij afhankelijk van slechte resultaten van Perez en Leclerc om kampioen te worden dus daar heeft hij zelf geen invloed op

  de kans is juist aanwezig dat die uitvalt vanwege de regen. niet dat hij zelf fout maakt maar hij kan door andere wagen geraakt worden net als in hongarije vorig jaar.

Ik heb nooit een coureur iets anders horen zeggen... Als hij naar de stand in het WK kijkt, dan weet hij zelf ook wel dat z'n 2de titel hem eigenlijk niet meer afgepakt kan worden... En hij verdient 'm ook, heeft de beste auto en hij en z'n team maken de minste fouten....
