Het team van Mercedes kende een goede eerste dag in Singapore. De Duitse renstal is bezig met een lastige seizoen maar in de eerste tweede vrije trainingen in de stadsstaat zag het er zeker niet slecht uit. Lewis Hamilton noteerde de snelste tijd in de eerste vrije training en ook in de tweede training zag het er niet slecht uit.

Hamilton en zijn teamgenoot George Russell kenden qua resultaten een goede vrijdag op het stratencircuit in Singapore. Hamilton was de snelste in de eerste training en in VT2 noteerde hij de vijfde tijd. Russell reed in diezelfde sessie de derde tijd op slechts 0,324 seconden van de snelste tijd van Carlos Sainz.

Stijfheid

Toch overheerste er na afloop geen algehele tevredenheid. Beide coureurs hadden de nodige klachten over de stijfheid van de bolide. Bij Sky Sports sprak teambaas Toto Wolff zich uit: "Allebei zeiden ze dat het besturen van de auto best tegenviel. In bocht zeven kan je dat zien als de anderen heel erg stijf zijn bij het insturen maar dat dit stopt zodra ze insturen. We wisten dat deze baan bij onze auto zou passen maar we wisten niet hoeveel last we zouden hebben van de hobbels."

Red Bull

Wolff heeft wel een goed gevoel overgehouden aan de vrijdag op het circuit in Singapore. De Oostenrijker verwacht dat zijn coureurs dit weekend kunnen gaan vechten met de concurrentie: "Ik denk dat Red Bull nogal wat problemen had. Ik weet wat ze qua set-up hebben gedaan. Ik denk dat we kunnen meevechten. Onze long run was heel erg competitief vergeleken met de long run van Sainz. We hebben Leclerc en Max niet gezien."

Toto moet dit toch weten? Rb en Max zijn wat dingen aan het uitproberen. Dat is als je voorsprong heb. Dat weet je toch Toto? Jarenlang zelf ook kunnen doen.

Hamilton had hoofdpijn van het stuiteren, maar de auto mag hier ineens meer stuiteren van de FIA. Komt Mercedes wel weer heel goed uit dat de regels hier weer ff versoepeld worden.
