Verstappen verklaart mislukte VT2: "We wilden een paar dingen uitproberen"

Max Verstappen kende een redelijke vrijdag op het circuit van Singapore. De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen reed een sterke eerste vrije training maar moest uiteindelijk genoegen nemen met de tweede tijd. In de tweede vrije training ging het veel minder en kwam hij niet veel verder dan de vierde tijd.

Verstappen kan in theorie in Singapore zijn tweede wereldtitel veiligstellen. De Nederlander heeft daarvoor een zege nodig maar in de eerste twee vrije trainingen moest hij aan de bak. In de tweede training spendeerde Verstappen veel minuten in de pitbox en miste hij vrijwel de gehele sessie. Het werd niet duidelijk wat er precies aan de hand was met de Red Bull van de Nederlander.

Aanpassingen

Na afloop van de vrije trainingen gaf Verstappen zelf aan wat er precies aan de hand was tijdens de tweede vrije training. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur sprak zich uit op Verstappen.com: "We begonnen de dag goed in VT1. De auto werkte goed en voor de tweede vrije training wilden we een paar dingen uitproberen. Dat duurde echter wat langer om dat te veranderen. Toen we daarna weer wat anders wilden proberen duurde dat ook weer lang om het aan te passen."

Niet representatief

Verstappen miste door de langdurige aanpassingen de nodige tracktime in de tweede vrije training. De Nederlander haalde zijn schouders erover op. Verstappen ziet er dan ook een positieve kant van in zijn analyse: "We konden daardoor niet veel rijden en het was dan ook niet representatief wat we lieten zien. Het laat in ieder geval de nodige ruimte voor verbetering bij ons."

  @FGracing; ja, schuldig bevonden voordat de rapporten klaar zijn. Lekker meehuilen met die sneue teambazen die voor de muziek uitlopen en moord en brand schreeuwen. Ik snap de FIA heel goed met hun statement, de sport wordt (weer) in diskrediet gebracht door een paar schreeuwlelijkerds.

Ik ga zo hard lachen als blijkt dat RBR zich netjes aan de budget cap gehouden heeft en juist Mercedes of een andere team teveel uitgegeven heeft.

Gewoon puur om de reacties dan van al die salty mensen hier.

  Ja, ik weet wel dat dit een pr dingetje is, maar er valt verder weinig te melden over zijn 25ste verjaardag.
  Zag net wel weer dat mooie filmpje van zijn 22 ste verjaardag voorbij komen. Eerst hoe hij in het vliegtuig behoorlijk dronken zat te ouwehoeren met Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Raymond en de rest en vervolgens de sleutel niet in het slot van zijn appartement kreeg, terwijl zijn zusje, haar vriend en Thierry Vermeulen binnen op hem zaten te wachten om zijn verjaardag te vieren.
  Victoria heeft hem maar meteen naar bed gestuurd onder het toeziend oog van Raymond. 🤣
