Uitslag VT3 Singapore: Leclerc snelste in kletsnatte sessie

De laatste vrije training op het circuit van Singapore zit er ook alweer op. Op het stratencircuit dwars door de Aziatische stadsstaat werd de snelste tijd genoteerd door Charles Leclerc. Achter hem werd de tweede tijd een prooi voor Max Verstappen. De top drie werd ditmaal compleet gemaakt door Carlos Sainz.

Voorafgaand de derde vrije training in Singapore regende het pijpenstelen rondom het circuit. In het voorprogramma werd de kwalificatie van de W Series al vroegtijdig afgevlagd en men vreesde dan ook voor de training. Bij de start van de sessie ging de timer wel lopen maar bleef de pitlane dicht. De Safety Car ging de baan op en na een half uur sprong het licht eindelijk op groen.

Gasly

De teams keken naar elkaar en niemand leek als eerste de baan op te willen gaan. Uiteindelijk was het AlphaTauri-coureur Pierre Gasly die als eerste de baan op kwam. De Fransman reed een aantal rondjes alvorens hij gezelschap kreeg van zijn teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda en Valtteri Bottas. De coureurs reden alle drie rond op de full wets maar Bottas liet al snel aan zijn team weten dat het tijd was voor intermediates.

Verstappen & Leclerc

De topteams kwamen daarna eveneens het circuit op en Max Verstappen koos direct voor de inters. De Nederlander reed wederom een foutloze sessie en noteerde de tweede tijd op een halve seconde van Leclerc. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur wisselde eveneens naar de regenband met de groen wang. Het was inmiddels gestopt met regenen maar het regende nu snelle tijden.

Hamilton

Onder andere Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll en Sebastian Vettel kenden een goede derde vrije training. De ervaren Alonso eindigde de sessie zelfs als vierde. Problemen waren er voor Lewis Hamilton. De Britse Mercedes-coureur worstelde met de omstandigheden en kwam niet verder dan de twaalfde plaats. In zijn snelle ronde hield hij zelfs Yuki Tsunoda op, de Japanner klaagde over de boordradio.

Problemen

Ook Leclerc maakte zich eventjes druk over de boordradio. De Monegask vroeg zich in de slotfase af of alles in orde was met zijn motor. Lecerc voelde iets vreemds maar volgens de pitmuur was er niets aan de hand. Bij Mick Schumacher ging er wel iets mis, de Duitse Haas-coureur wilde wegrijden met een loszittende band. Ook Williams-coureurs Nicholas Latifi en Alexander Albon hadden het lastig. Beide coureurs bezochten de escape roads en Latifi klaagde over de besturing van zijn wagen.

Grote veranderingen niet, maar Red Bull heeft normaal aan 1 rondje voldoende in Q1 en Q2. Dan kunnen ze nog veranderen. Alleen grote veranderingen in setup kunnen niet meer.

Wellicht gaat RB de kwalificatie gebruiken voor de verloren tijd? Hier heb je ook niks aan...

  je mag tijdens en na de kwalificatie niks meer veranderen aan de auto, dus normaal gesproken het enige wat je tijdens de kwalificatie kunt doen is kwalificeren

  je mag alleen nog wat aan de voorvleugel aanpassen, verder mag je qua set up niks meer doen.

  Teams are free to modify their cars as they wish (within the rules) right up to the start of qualifying but as soon as the green light goes for Q1, all cars are placed under parc fermé conditions from then until the start of the race.

Er zou een baan moeten zijn waar het altijd regent zodat lance stroll sowieso 1x per jaar schitterd.

Die baan moet dan ook op regen ontworpen zijn anders start de FIA de race nooit.
