Leclerc baalt van mislopen zege: "Gehele race gepusht"

De Grand Prix van Singapore was een groot spektakelstuk. Op de opdrogende baan in de stadsstaat werd na een uitstel van een uur een waanzinnige race gereden. Charles Leclerc vertrok vanaf de pole position maar hij kon die positie niet lang vasthouden. Hij kwam als tweede over de lijn en de zege ging naar Sergio Perez.

Perez greep direct bij de start de leiding van de race. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur gaf die positie niet meer weg maar moet zich wel melden bij de stewards voor een mogelijke overtreding achter de Safety Car. Achter Perez was Leclerc vrijwel de gehele race vol aan het pushen. Het had echter niet het gewenste effect want Leclerc kwam er niet voorbij.

Na afloop van de Grand Prix mocht Leclerc nog eventjes hopen op een zege aangezien Perez nog naar de stewards moet. De vermoeide Leclerc sprak zich uit bij interviewer van dienst Paul di Resta: "Ik heb de gehele race gepusht. De slechte start zorgde ervoor dat we een achterstand hadden. Dat kostte ons achteraf gezien de race. Ik had wheelspin en daardoor geen performance. Het is moeilijk maar ik ga goed slapen en dan gaan ons klaarmaken voor Japan."

Leclerc was op een gegeven moment wel sneller, maar inhalen kon niet, dan moest hij op het natte. Perez verdedigde subliem.
Geen van beiden kwam tekort.
De enigen die tekort kwamen waren Max en Lewis.
