Binotto wijst naar start als grote minpunt: "Had impact voor de rest van onze race"

Het team van Ferrari werd vandaag in Singapore verslagen door Red Bull Racing-coureur Sergio Perez. Desalniettemin kon men wel zeer tevreden zijn met het oog op het constructeurskampioenschap. Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz kwamen namelijk als tweede en derde over de finishstreep. Mattia Binotto was redelijk tevreden.

Leclerc startte de race vanaf de pole position maar direct bij de start werd hij al verschalkt door Perez. In de race kon de Monegask er niet meer voorbij komen en moest hij de druk er volledig opzetten. Sainz had het op zijn beurt eveneens zwaar maar de Spanjaard zag zijn podiumplaats op geen enkel moment echt in gevaar komen.

Impact

Na afloop van de race was teambaas Mattia Binotto dan ook gematigd tevreden. Binotto zag dat alles eigenlijk in de soep liep bij de start. In gesprek met het Britse Sky Sports is hij duidelijk: "Ik denk dat de start niet fantastisch was. We verloren daar een positie en dat had impact op de rest van onze race. Als we een betere start hadden gehad hadden we ook een beter resultaat. Bij de start reageerde Charles wel goed. Hij deed alles volgens de procedures maar hij had wheelspin omdat er weinig grip was."

Constructeurskampioenschap

Binotto zag eveneens dat Ferrari in het constructeurskampioenschap goede zaken deed ten opzichte van Red Bull. Perez kwam weliswaar als eerste over de streep maar de race van Max Verstappen viel tegen. Binotto toonde zich tevreden: "Ik denk dat als tweede en derde finishen over het algemeen best een goed resultaat is. Als je kijkt naar het constructeurskampioenschap was dit een goed weekend."

  Ik stond best te kijken van die 5.2 seconden. Leclerc schoot iets te ver door, maar kon niet helemaal plaatsen of daardoor ook de vertraging bij de voorbanden het resultaat ervan was.

  Dat was de reden. Dat doorschieten. De mannen met de wheel guns en met de wielen moesten zich eerst verplaatsen. Echter heeft Leclerc daar de race niet verloren.
  De Red Bull was duidelijk weer beter in de race en ook duidelijk beter voor de banden. Leclerc heeft delen flink over de limiet gereden. Eigenlijk zat ik te wachten op een crash van hem. Knap dat hij dit niet deed.

  Hij hield het inderdaad lang vol achter Perez. Even dacht ik dat hij een kans maakte. Maar vervolgens kom Perez makkelijk het tempo behouden en zelfs versnellen ondanks de 2 lock ups.
